Still the most wonderful series in recent years. Very little has stood out recently. I would say the last was Ashes to Ashes.

Late to the party on this one even though was aware of the programme and the positive reviews it's received.

Anyway, binge watched on iPlayer recently (upto) mid-series 2 and, thankfully, so far so good.

One annoyance though, is the over use of the theme song/music throughout each episode - beginning to really grate.

Not sure if it's been mentioned in the previous 30 pages of this thread or if I'm the only one who thinks this but had to vent. mad

I like it as well. Surprisingly performed and written by Jonny Flynn, I say surprisingly as he is the star of Scrotal Recall (Love Hurts) which I thoroughly recommend (well, the first series anyway, it got a bit soppy when Netflix took it over).

I take it you guys watched Worzel Gummidge over Christmas?

I really enjoyed it, particularly the second episode.

Found the episode here. You only need to watch the first 3 mins to know you're in safe hands: https://youtu.be/Ei8emOB4Exk?t=39

I'll have to give that a try as well then (the original Worzel scared the crap out of me!)

Every time I see this Detectorist thread pop up again I think "yes! Series 4 is on the way!!".. I'll keep my fingers crossed, doesn't sound likely from what I've heard, but nobody has ruled it out completely.

Yep, also watched Worzel, recorded it for the kids, they moaned when I suggested watching it but then sat there enthralled for two hours. Great bit of TV.

You can see a lot of synergy between it and the Detectorists, obviously as it was also written and directed my Mackenzie. Talented chap.

Just watched it as I forgot it was on. What a fantastic, wonderful short series and I agree about the "the old forgotten ways of old". The subtle special effects were clever and the odd humour (Ten Four).

Love the Detectorists, but couldn't get into the new Worzel at all. Thought it was poor.

Just started watching this series and really enjoying it.

It's such a gentle pace and the characters are fabulously strange yet somehow endearing.

Just started on Series 2 and looking forward to more.

We binged it over Christmas and loved it, I've been recommending it to anyone that will listen. The characters are great and you really start to care for them. There's lots of clever running gags across the series, the 3 TV remotes made me laugh, especially when that particular loop is closed in series 2.

I watched them all again on a long train journey recently and with repeated viewings you pick up on the bits you missed first time round.

Mackenzie Crook is also great in the film "Three and Out" which is a dark comedy and highly amusing.

Started watching Series 3 yesterday and was totally blown away by the end of the first episode.

What an amazing 4 minutes of television. The photography, music, the whole connection with history is outstanding.

The more I see of this the more I'm impressed.

Such a shame there's only 3 series in total.

Don't forget the Christmas special! I think it sits between Ser 2 and 3 but I might be wrong.

Speaking of dust, I have no tangible explanation, nothing I can point at or quote but there is something about this series that makes me well up.
I'm doing it now writing this.
It's the same if I recommend it to someone. I have to inwardly compose myself. Something within me is triggered. I can't help it. It sets off some sort of raw primeval emotional connection within me.
Its observation and apparent simplicity make it a masterpiece IMO

Mackenzie Crook, true craftsmanship.

What's that? Porcupine?

(that always snaps me out of it) smile

I know what you mean. It's closing in on perfect, IMO. Up there with OFAH, Blackadder IV, and The Office

What an achievement.

Yes, I know exactly where you're coming from. It's such a slow burner but it gets right under your skin. It's just so different to anything else around at the moment. The characters are so real, even though they are also so different (confused????) and the settings and photography are superb. I'm missing it so much after discovering it about 2 weeks ago and watching all 3 series and the Xmas special in that time. An absolute masterpiece.

Incidentally, I get a bit emotional like that occasionally and have to make an effort to slow down and keep my voice level. Anything to do with The Battle of Britain and Spitfires in particular, is sure to set me off............ I did a "Fly with a Spitfire" experience for my 40th and ended up choking back the tears........... although so did all the other 8 people on the trip.

It's so good that we can find things that can trigger emotions like that and it's a tribute to the quality of the writing, directing, acting and production of The Detectorists that it is obviously so emotive for people. Top quality!!!

thanks to lock down bbc iplayer is getting looked at. Already knew this was worth a watch but its still proven really entertaining.
Was on tenterhooks after the explosion but being naturally curious went to bed. Left it till next day to see the aftermath.
