I watched it all again from start to finish over the weekend. Very enjoyable.

Absolutely love this programme.

Recently watched them all again in order plus the Christmas special. As has been mentioned, well worth a second viewing as there are so many subtleties that are easy to miss first time around.

Was actually gutted once I get to the end of series 3 and had no more of them to watch. Real quality like this comes along quite rarely.

Thanks for the eads up there is a series 3. I reached the end of series 2 a year ago and I felt lost TBH.

Iplayer search tonight!

I loved Detectorists; I can highly recommend the Mackenzie Crook Wurzel Gummidge episodes that were broadcast around Xmas 2019, they were also excellent.

Yes there is a third series, the weakest of the three but still better than most shows and one particular tiny moment of the best acting ever captured on film

Yeah was wondering that myself... can you give us a gentle reminder without spoiling it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Loads of high points for me, but one that had me properly laughing was them all drinking Sheila's home made lemonade... the facial expressions laugh

Can't recall which series it was in, but it's a classic moment. Always loved the Sheila character, the 80's hairdo, the make up, even her choice of drink when they were in the pub. Brilliant stuff!

Best moments for me:

In the pub beer garden when Sheila seems to remember a child.

When Varde proposes to Louise

When the trees fall away and the landscape changes.

The hawk whistle

Lance finding gold

All superb !

the trees changing and time passing was excellent.

after reading about the series on here we watched every episode over two evenings
the first ended at 01:45am, such a good show.

I have a metal detector but have not used it for many years, I recall finding musket balls and various small
pieces all in fields near Lavenham in Suffolk.

There's a stunning sadness to Sheila. Her character is brilliantly written and depicted. I think something really awful happened to her/them in the distant past. We don't know, and don't need to know what it was, but it is stitched into her life, and it shows in just enough weight to bring the character to life.

Magic.

Late to this party... just binged all 3 series and the special.

Absolutely brilliant, gutted there wasn’t more series made that I missed.

Lovely writing, good characters well acted. Funny without the need to be over the top.

It could easily carry on for another series, but like many great shows would probably benefit from being left where it was and appreciated as it was.

Missed this first time round and just finished binge watching all 3 series over the past few evenings.

What a wonderfully written and acted show. It's subtle, heartwarming, touching comedy at its very best..

I envy those who've not yet seen it.

A pint of numbers duly raised to Mackenzie Crook for a job extremely well done.

I live where Detectorists is set - near Danbury (Danebury). It's nice to see Essex represented in a more accurate manner rather than the usual TOWIE crap.

Some of it was also filmed in Upminster where I grew up and used to play as a kid. The memories of that only added to the joy of the programme.

Toni's canal boat is still moored at Paper Mill Lock in Little Baddow.

Is it not set in Suffolk?

So Essex is standing in the neighbouring county.

They still need to find that ship burial. Come on season 4!

Big fan of Detectorists here too.

I understand the desire for another series but sometimes it's best to leave stories as they are, and let the imagination fill in the rest about where the characters might go in future.

A lot of the filming was done in Suffolk (Lavenham) but the story is set in mid/east Essex. In one of the episodes, they're looking at a map in the pub and the map clearly shows the area east of Chelmsford towards Maldon and South Woodham Ferrers in the South, albeit with slightly changes place names.

Binge watched all three series earlier in the year. Genuinely sad when I had finished watching them.
