I'm currently reading The Stand (The uncut version) again (brilliant book - The cut version sucks) and I'm just re-watching the mini series (slow and full of odd bits missing from the book) - I love both, but I hear it's to be made in to a 2 part film - Does anyone have any concrete information on this as I think, if done well, it'll be awesome...

I'm a big King fan. I have yet to enjoy a King horror film. Some things just work better in print.

Obviously - Shawshank and Running Man are epic, but they're not horror films =)

Thanks - I'd seen that, but there's not a lot of info there

I'd heard about Matthew Mcconaughey as Flagg too - Not sure if I approve - I always saw Mel Gibson as Flagg

I'd like to see "The Dark Tower" filmed. You couldn't possibly make it a movie - waaaayyy too long.

But you'd get seven seasons out of it as a TV show. (Yes - I'm looking at you, Game of Thrones).

7 seasons of 22 episodes you could tell that story. The CGI necessary is now at the right price.

I wonder...

Cool, I'm just reading this too. As a King fan it was the only classic I never read of his. Why is un-cut so much better?

The Shining
The Green Mile (not really a horror I suppose)
Misery

Brilliant films that at least equal the book.
I've always thought Stephen King was utterly extraordinary for how his books seem to translate so easily into top films, that almost surpass the books which is a completely rare thing to witness. I guess I disagree with you.

Not saying they aren't good, but Green mile not horror, misery a thriller imo.
You can also claim delores clairbone - I've not read it so have no opinion.

Problem is there would be large sections which were dull, which could translate into a few cr*p episodes.

Most of these books don't translate well into film IMHO, there is too much for the imagination to do...

Buschemi as trash can man, or at a push the kid of fast and the furious.

Nick andros could be played by the lead from runaway jury

Tom cullen to be played by keaunu reeves (method acting)

Kojak - Terry saveloy

There's a lot more of the book - about 300 pages worth. I'll dig out the detail..

There was a fair chunk of crossover of The Stand into the Dark Tower from what I remember of it.

As for the miniseries the intro was probably the best bit of the whole thing:

Obviously Clint Eastwood but he's a bit old now.

As for the stand, Brad Pitt would work for Flagg and if they can't get him, The Hoff silly

I always saw Robin Williams as Tom Cullen.

There was a crossover of everything! Didn't some of the characters from Salem's Lot turn up? And the writer himself (though he's kind of in most of them in some way).

The Territories turn up in several other books too. Black House, The Talisman, maybe others?

Quite possibly, I only got through the first four before giving up. Wizard & Glass was a very 'post Stand' one.

I picked up an unabridged version of The Stand in a hotel in Egypt a few years ago. Came in very handy when spending 3 days laid up in bed with food poisoninglaugh

Anyway, I love the book & have read it many times & I'm currently watching the miniseries my Missus got me for Christmas & I think it's pretty good.

What's funny though, is in my mind, Flagg was black.

Having watched him play The Governor in The Walking Dead, I'd say David Morrissey would suit Flagg very well.

How about Karl Urban?

He made an excellent good Judge Dredd.
