I cancelled Sky years ago because:

1. Constant price increases
2. Constant advertising on Skys own channels - far worse than the channels on freeview (i.f i'm paying for subscription TV I expect fewer adverts - not more and I don't expect to have to sit through adverts for a service I already have.......Sky love advertising Sky on Sky!?!).
3. Lack of content. The movie channels seemed to go down hill, and most channels are just filled with repeats.

I just spend the money I save on Sky on DVDs instead.

I switched to Freesat about 2 yrs ago, you are able to use the dish and cables from sky, just swap boxes.

Don't miss Sky at all, and will do my best never to return.
So apart from football & some channels what else would I lose?

Can you still record stuff and what about other sports channels? Mrs BC loves tennis which is often on Eurosport .

There are Freesat PVR boxes that allow you to record and watch different programs with series link capabilities just like Sky plus, some have the usual ondemand channels (Iplayer etc and Youtube) but no sports channels on freesat.

It's been 4 years since I switched and I just recently had access to Sky for a couple weeks and didn't find that I was missing anything significant. I mostly watched Discovery channels and the majority of the shows I watched were repeats that were so old that Mike Brewer was thin.

Virgin fibre don't require you to have a phone line (and line rental) in order to provide broadband.
No, they don't.

But there's no package for BB and TV. Meaning I've to pay full for them separately, which is more expensive!

Coupled with Virgin Media, 50Meg. plus phone.
Only took phone, because it works out cheaper than without.

We had the basic package for 16/month in 2000 - I dread to think what it is now.

My daughter gets married in a fortnight. In order to finance this, something, or rather some things, had to go. My plan was to dump the full Sky package (less HD) for Freeview and BT sports - I'm a big rugby fan.
Now some 10 months into the package change I'm well satisfied. I've got Netflix for no extra charge in the last couple of wards.
I've dropped from over £55pcm to £15, plus an occasional Now TV day pass for GPs, probably 5 or 6 this eason. Much to my surprise, I watch more TV now, helped by Netflix and rugby.
Would I go for just Freeview only? I enjoy my rugby a bit too much.
How come you get Netflix free?
Is it SUperleague you watch?
Superleague? No, I watch rugby, with scrums and rucks and things.

i initially bought a fairly basic package from BT, thinking that I'd give it a go. It came with an On Demand bit which had a selection of films. Few good ones, some for the grandkids. Then, after 18mnths I got the offer of ditching the OD and opting for Netflix. All I had to do was take out another 12 months contract. We'd already decided to stay with BT so jumped at it.

I like Netflix but it does take up so much time. I'll flick through the films and there's always one I'll click on. Some good old ones as well, like Donnie Darko, which I watched last week.

BT for me is good value. I watch every rugby match. I've been out watching my own team lose to the league leaders, allowing them a bonus point, and now I've got two I recorded, one of which I've been told - the Quins match - is a cracker. So looking forward to that.

BT won't suit everyone but even without the massive savings, my wife told me we were actually paying nearer £70 pcm (must keep up) it means £45 pcm better off, I'd go for it.

Films sounds like a black hole. Might be best to stay away, especially since they don't have rugby.

How do people who use BT sport through Apple TV get on, last yr was the first yr we had it for Moto GP but it's a nightmare.

Freezes, won't load at all, stops after a few mins, needed a iPad reboot, it's the same on all 3 iPads in house.

I've just tried to watch the qualifying and gave up in the end.

I may end up telling BT to shove it and buy a MOTO GP pass instead, presuming I can stream to TV from iPad.

No unfortunately you cannot watch BTSport through the Freesat box I watch it via my PC which is not ideal but I can put up with it as I only watch MotoGP.

If you have BT Infinity you could get a BT Vision package and watch BTSport through that.

I also have a NOWTV box which I pay £6.99 per month for the Entertainment package (Discovery, Sky Atlantic etc) plus when I have to watch F1 on Sky I buy a one day pass off Ebay for anywhere from £2.00 to £4.00, you can do the same for the Movie pass as well.

The price increases are very irritating but I'm still to find a better solution.

F1 in HD with every race
Sky Atlantic
Discovery
A phone
Fast, unlimited broadband.

I pay about £65/month and I'm yet to use a DVR that is better than the latest Sky boxes.

When there's a realistic alternative that doesn't involve 9 different subscriptions and a load of pissing around I'll consider it. In the meantime I'll stay where I am.

Even if I could find the top one else where I'd probably cancel. We watch some of the american sitcoms, but they are available elsewhere.

We've had BT infinity for about a year now, but hadn't got round to kicking the Sky habit.

Phone call was made this weekend, our service will end on 29th April.

Plan is to go for BT tv, with a Now TV subscription so we can watch Game of Thrones.

They tried to keep us with Sky, at least a bit, by offering £43 a month instead of £61. I pointed out I was looking at spending about £15 with my new option, but they couldn't/wouldn't go that low.

I reckon if they'd gone half price on me, I'd have caved in for another year, but it wasn't to be.

So what do I need to know about BTs TV offering?

I'd been with Sky for 15 - 17 years or so. I phoned them to cancel and was given the retention chap. I told him what I was going to pay £15 to BT for my choice and asked them what their best deal was for that. I was told £28, which included a couple of additional channels. I'd got the menu in front of me and I was surprised to see that there was no reduction. I put this to the chap and he admitted it. If they'd offered, say, £20 I'd have gone for it, but I'm glad they didn't as I've now got Netflix.

I kept the Sky box and when my TV aerial sprung a leak, reducing the signal, I put the Sky box back to get the Freeview bit. The following day the aerial was replaced, giving a much better image, and now I can record two programmes whilst watching a third. OK, so we've only done that once, and we could have watched one of them on iPlayer, but it is convenient.

One thing, though: the non-HD signal on Sky is noticeably lower quality than the standard signal on BT.
