Another Sky Price Increase
Discussion
I ditched Sky 3 months ago and was quite happy with the free channels.
Then we got an offer via work....Sky with all channels except movies and Sports, talk package and broadband for ......£0 per month. Yes folks, ZERO. For 12 months.
I could not refuse, so now I have Sky again.
(And I could have movies and Sports for £8,75 a month, but I declined.

The price increases are very irritating but I'm still to find a better solution.
F1 in HD with every race
Sky Atlantic
Discovery
A phone
Fast, unlimited broadband.
I pay about £65/month and I'm yet to use a DVR that is better than the latest Sky boxes.
When there's a realistic alternative that doesn't involve 9 different subscriptions and a load of pissing around I'll consider it. In the meantime I'll stay where I am.

So my situation is that we can only get BT broadband, which is reliable but dog slow. Apparently they are "exploring solutions" for BT superfast so I won't hold my breath. Virgin cable provision stops 100 yards up the road and they have no plans to extend it to this address.
I love watching live HD football, cricket and golf (well the majors and the Ryder Cup anyway)and I'm not interested in movies, but I really don't want to give up my TV sport.
So I've just got to suck it up, right? Price rises I mean, for Sky (currently £63 per month). Or am I missing something, wise people of PH? Has anyone tried to cancel and got given a better deal?
Mike.

I switched to Freesat about 2 yrs ago, you are able to use the dish and cables from sky, just swap boxes.
Don't miss Sky at all, and will do my best never to return.
I done the same. Took the plunge to Freesat when I moved house 2 years ago. The previous owner had the Sky connections here and I just plugged the freesat box in.Don't miss Sky at all, and will do my best never to return.
In my last house I had Sky mainly due to a poor reception area for terrestial tv and at that time there were no real alternatives like Freesat. I worked out in the end most of the channels I was watching were the freeview ones anyway.
Can't say I've really missed Sky at all.

I cancelled sky today after 8 years, going to go to BT TV, retentions only offered me 10% off my £65 monthly fee so its goodbye sky, like others, I think I'll get a now TV box for one off sporting events.
Am I right in thinking you don't need a seperate box for now TV if you get the BT box? Is there an app or something? There seems to be a belief that Fibre broadband is BT Infinity only? BT is a provider of Fibre broadband services it's true but Sky, Zen, Talk Talk, The Post Office and about a dozen others all offer Fibre Broadband that's the SAME as BT Infinity.
I can't really talk about ditching it. I only pay £10 for Fibre and the Line Rental. I will say that if I were to pay for it (and I have done in the past) I ditched Movies and Sports in HD. This was pre F1 on Sky though.

As I already have Sky tv it appears that I can get a Freestat viewing card from Sky for £25 and use the existing equipment:-

Has anybody tries this. If so hopefully BT Sport would still work?

One thing, though: the non-HD signal on Sky is noticeably lower quality than the standard signal on BT.
I have been saying this for ages. I still think that Sky bastardises their standard signal and lower the bit rate to make their HD service look more appealing. Some channels are worse than VHS.One thing, though: the non-HD signal on Sky is noticeably lower quality than the standard signal on BT.

I have actually ditched Sky's Sports and Movies.
I stopped watching the golf. Movies are all obtainable by other means. Luckily I don't care about football.
Doing this halved my Sky bill. I still have Atlantic which has the shows on I watch.
So you could ditch Sky altogether and Apple TV or Now TV for £6.99 a month to watch Sky Atlantic?I stopped watching the golf. Movies are all obtainable by other means. Luckily I don't care about football.

Let's face it, the only reason to have Sky these days is surely Sky Sports? Unfortunately the only Sky Sports channels available outside of Sky are Sky Sports 1 & 2, which means no golf!
