The Quick And The Dead

Haven't seen this in a dog's age and forgot how much I enjoyed it.

An all star cast including a fresh-faced Leonardo. Sam Raimi has a quirky directing style and with an instantly recognisable Alan Silverstri score, it gives this western a unique look and feel.

9/10

Not seen that in a long time but agree it's pretty good, might have to dig it out again.

I still think Silverado is my favourite western though.

Well it's a Ken Loach film so I can see your point.

Politics aside, as someone that has dealt with and been ruined by the system in a very, very similar way I can honestly say the film is spot on and captures the issues involved brilliantly.

I've stood in a supermarket at my lowest, (thanks to the system) and contemplated walking out with something and not paying. I didn't but the thought seriously crossed my mind that's how bad it can get.

Selling some of your prized possessions for peanuts, just to put food in the cupboard is a very painful thing to do,especially when you have wrongly been put in that position by a faceless, inept, substandard government body that have no grasp or concept of the real world, and can't even grasp the basics of communication via telephone and email.

Feeling like a loser, avoiding family and friends and having your life sucked out of you, even contemplating if its worth carrying on at times, these are all things that really can happen.

To have your dignity and everything you ever worked for slowly taken from you, through a ridiculous antiquated and arse about face system is pretty soul destroying.

Yes I know its another rant but perhaps you need to have lived it to be able to truly understand it.
This is true. It is easy to mock the basis of the film as a Corbyn endorsement, but it really does portray what it is like to be in the system. It really is soul destroying. Not everyone on the dole wants to be there and as the film shows. Don't ever think about needing them and thinking they are there to save you.

I forgot to add that I watched Hacksaw Ridge and thought it was great. smile I also watched Logan and although ti was still in the Marvel vain it did take a wee step away from it for a bit

Just back from Alien Covenant in Imax.
It was OK. Got verrrrry predictable towards the end. Not as bad as some reviews made out.
C- overall.

The true story of Whitey Bulger a notorious Boston gangster who turned FBI informant to deal with the Mafia on his patch.
Great cast, Johhny Depp plays Whitey and does it really well, in fact I thought all of the cast were very, very good. Whiteys brother was a state Senator, and there is an interesting link to the lead FBI character.

Really enjoyed it, the credits at the end make for interesting reading when you consider some of the crimes involved, I'd say, (imo) its a solid 9/10

I like Silverado, but what with all the legendary westerns out there, not sure if it gets top ten even.

Willow was on today, it's still enjoyable-ish. It's gimmick heavy, it'd effects heavy, and it has a convoluted and confused plot with very basic design. It is a LUcas film, made me think on the Princess Bride, which simplicity and humour create it's timeless appeal.

Also, Highlander is on c5 tonight

Flashpoint with Kris Kristofferson

A tale of two US Border guards who stumble across a buried jeep, a skeleton, a sniper rifle and $800K.
A definite 8/10.

I'd been looking for this film for a long while and accidentally came across it as a full length feature on YouTube so hooked up my HDMI lead and filled my boots. Lots of others of the time - I think Lee Marvin, Angie Dickinson and Ronald Regan in the Killers is on the cards for tomorrow night.

For me, this was the highpoint of american cinema - no CGI, the Mob, the good guys wear white hats and the baddies in black coats and shades, and the driving off into the sunset ending the film.

My membership of the local Art House is coming up for renewal and this year has been a huge disappointment filled with cr@p. Currently showing Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - FFS ! Meanwhile the stuff on the web beckons.

Hated it, got bored, switched off halfway through. Each to their own though. 4/10

ReAlive

Quite wordy and techy look into the future and bringing frozen people back from the dead..
Thought provoking in parts and not bad.. Interesting ending..

Think I better get in the freezer to be brought back to life in 100 years by 'Google Cryonics' or 'Amazon deep freeze' Inc.....
Corporate giants getting very scary.... The dulcet tones of Alexa or Siri will be soothing your sleep as the cash registers ring..

Fair point, I was thinking modern westerns. Although it was the same year as Pale Rider which I would class as a classic western not a modern western so I'm not sure where I'm going with this biggrin

I'll have to keep an eye out for that, sounds very similar to "A Simple Plan", two brothers find a crashed light aircraft with a load of money in it. Enjoyable story, though (as is often the case) the film was a letdown after the book.

Sing - Exactly what you expect. Great for the kids and fine for the adults. Not up there with the greatest works of pixar but a pretty entertaining hour and a half.

No I'm confused too

Modern western for me is something like no country for old men.

Anyway Silverado is a lot of fun. Enjoyable film but there are many better recent westerns like Open Range for example.
