Free Fire.
Jesus it was fking tedious. Great cast let down by a terrible premise.

I'm sure there was a point to this film somewhere but I obviously missed it. Utter bks. Trailer implied it might be good, it wasn't.

but I felt the best bits were shown in the trailers.
This is the reason that I actively avoid trailers now. They're unavoidable in the cinema, of course, but I don't go to the cinema very often.

Watched the original Robocop (again) randomly this morning. Re-watching films over and over is a waste of time according to Mrs WJB, but, in my defence, I've not seen it in full for a couple of years.

It's my favorite film so, 10/10. smile

It get's worse, she had never (ever) seen a Star Wars film till about a year ago, and can't see the issue with being late for the trailers in the cinema...

A Beautiful Mind. Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly in an excellent based-on-reality film about John Nash, a mathematical genius devastated by paranoid schizophrenia who eventually recovered and received the Nobel Prize. 9/10.

I am sure I have mentioned this before, but I vividly remember going to the cinema (aged 20) to watch Robocop. I overheard the manager comment about the lack of ticket sales for this film, saying he thought this was supposed to be a blockbuster, instead it's a damp squib (or words to that effect). Anyway, I absolutely loved it, at the time, it was without doubt the most graphically violent film I had thus far seen (more than Scarface), and the satire was spot on.

Strangely, exactly a decade later, I watched Starship Troopers and, again, like history repeating, the cinema was barely half full on opening night. but again, I loved it (same director, I think). I had never seen such fantastic looking special effects, coupled with very dark satire.(like Robocop a decade earlier). Naturally, I now own both on BR...

Superbad.

Felt I should watch it as it was in Empire's top 100 comedies of all time.

If I was 18, yeah.. maybe. But the temptation to just turn it off in the first ten minutes was huge. Stuck it out (I'm not a quitter) but can't help feeling that a top 100 comedy of all time should be funny for more than just teenage boys.

Lady In The Van

OK, now there's a contrast. Wasn't sure I would get into it, but really enjoyed it. Well played, and beautifully written.

Great film.

From opening montage and music at Heathrow with Concorde backdrop, to one of the best end scenes.

Along the way derelict Dockland London, Jags & slags; menacing gangsters, ambitious yanks, exploding pubs and the IRA.

Top, top stuff.
Yep, can't disagree with that! thumbup

The Gift (2015 film)

Watched this last night, thought it might be a routine thriller, the beats were different and twigged it was a bit different at some point, I'm glad I watched it, nice lil thriller. Kept me guessing how it would go.

also watched

Belle (2013 film)

Nice and interesting film, according to the film, the first black British aristocrat. Strangely it reminded me of the twaddle some speak when saying Bond can't be black because of Scottish ancestry (always ignoring as if Swiss can't be any colour), anyway, interesting.

The Hitman's Bodyguard. A buddy movie really, with Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Gary Oldman. It's well done; it doesn't take itself too seriously but isn't played for laughs. The best bits are the chemistry between the two leads, and there are some real, natural laugh out loud moments. 7/10.
Saw this yeaterday, and thought it was really good fun, good LOL moments and some great one liners from SLJ (the Home Alone reference was very good) 8/10 from me

The Captive - good but it does deal with child abduction so be warned (nothing explicit/etc in the film).
