Forign with subtitles. One of the best films I've seen this year by far. It's on sky now, go see something that will really make you stop and think.
Thanks for this. I saw the trailer months ago in the Bristol Watershed but forgot about it. Amazon have it to stream so will give it a watch this week.Forign with subtitles. One of the best films I've seen this year by far. It's on sky now, go see something that will really make you stop and think.

Is it really that bad?
I went to see Geostorm tonight which has had its global warming/disaster/sci-fi nonsense discussed already. Something to look at while scoffing nachos or popcorn.
But what caught my attention was the trailer for the Matt Damon/Julianne Moore black comedy Suburbicon. I really like the look of this. It's late 1950s Americana that looks at the dark and often violent side of suburbia. Release date is towards the end of November.

2012 was on TV earlier, I only managed a few minutes of it, but do people really get paid to appear in this absolute dirge and moreover would anyone willingly pay to see it. The only apocalypse is the film itself.
How can you form any opinion based on 'a few minutes'? Surely you'd hardly be past the opening credits? Besides, although obviously no Oscar winner it's decent enough brain-out nonsense.Extracted some value form the Unlimited card this weekend. Cr*p weather and kids to entertain:
Geostorm - dire. Makes 2012 look like a Palme D'Or winner. Not even brain out nonsense, by the end I was looking for something to blow my brains out with. Now I like a bit of apocalypse-porn, but the effects were made for TV bad (1998's Armageddon p*sses all over this). Characters and acting awful. Butler shows all the depth of a puddle (probably little he could do with the script), I'm at a loss where the $15m in reshoots went. At least Bruce Willis had the decency to snuff it at the end of Armageddon (pretty sure for a 19yr old film this isn't a spoiler - or shame on you if you haven't seen this masterpiece).
Now I can normally ignore all plausibility for a decent bit of cinema, but it wasn't the space lasers, freeze rays etc that did it for me - but the simple physics of space detritus being ignored that boiled my pee.

The Ritual
I rather liked the first 70mins or so of this one. Characters seemed relatable and think it was a pretty decent stab at modern horror. Creepy and gruesome in equal measure, only slightly undone by the last act. Actually not slightly. I mean WTF, from Dusk Till Dawn pulls off a mid-way genre switch but I have no idea what the director was thinking here. Ritual goes from being quite an effective creepy lost in the wilderness thriller to The Thing meets My Little Pony.
If it wasn’t for Unlimited, I might have felt a bit swizzled as this is really just straight to Netflix fodder. I might be missing the character arc and journey for the protagonist; but the last act was down there with Hyena and Kill List for me.
Rabbit Punch to the kidneys/5
Lego Ninjago Movie
Saturday kids club movie with the dustbins.
It’s a 90 minute advert for the latest Lego sets. No idea what the film was like (although I remember a couple of reasonable gags); spent most of it on Amazon ordering the latest sets for Christmas (and I want a Garmadon mech). Not a terrible way to munch through popcorn at half term

Poor form to have your phone on while the movie is showing. "No distractions, no sudden ring tones, no glaring screens, no talking."

Finally got around to watching The Big Short. After a very awkward opening 10 minutes it becomes utterly captivating. Great performances and very clever methods of explaining horribly complex/boring financial stuff necessary to following the plot.
Loved it, can’t believe it had taken this long for me to get around to seeing it.
It's a really great watch about a time that's scarred the world and most people still know only the vaguest things about. Loved it, can’t believe it had taken this long for me to get around to seeing it.

Indeed, but I was hiding under my jacket not waving it around like a glow stick at a Little Mix concert."No distractions, no sudden ring tones, no glaring screens, no talking."

The Death of Stalin; never have I felt so guilty about laughing so hard at a film that is so black and white when it comes to marrying political satire and human brutality. Outstanding performances from everyone, especially Jason Issacs (hello to) and some great quotable lines.
I saw it in a packed Picture House Central in Piccadilly and the entire audience was howling with laughter at times. Stark contrast to a colleague who hated it and said his screening was entirely laugh-free throughout.

I watched John Wick On Demand this weekend. Better than the first one and SO SO AWESOME!!! He is the ultimate anti-hero IMO. He outdoes every 80's-90's action star. He would be an asset to The Expendables.
I know many will say it is very overdone and unrealistic, and it is, but the way it is filmed and choreographed it does not seem unrealistic to me like so many over the top action films.
Absolutely LOVE the ending in the park. Obviously a Chapter 3 coming.
Got to say that Keanu is looking a bit long and tired in the face at this point in time and I don't recall him looking so in the first one. I can also I think see that he has had some facial work done it seems.
Anyway, if you have yet to see JW1 or 2 I HIGHLY SUGGEST it!

Seriously??. It struck me as totally ridiculous, yet it didn’t even hint that it was all a comedy skit. Shooting hundreds of ‘baddies’ one after another, continually, it felt like a stuck gramophone record......Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
