Minority Report - still looks amazing 8.5/10
There's a bit in Minority Report that always annoys the hell out of me. It's when he gets back into the facility using his own eyes (which he drops and which roll down the corridor for added 'comedy' [sic]). You'd have thought that the moment he went on the run they'd have cancelled his user account and the retinal scan of his old eyes would no longer work.(I realise that this probably belongs in the 'annoyed beyond reason' thread)

Just re-watched Dredd for the first time in ages and again feel hugely gutted it will never get a sequel. What they achieved on such a relatively small budget (<£30 million) is amazing. I blame Stallone...
Why blame Stallone is was not in Dredd. He starred in Judge Dredd Judge Dredd

The CGI was a little shonky in places (especially the vehicle physics) yet at other times was breathtaking.
The story was very different to the previous Appleseed film - "Ex Machina". I found some strong parallels with Battle Angel Alita, in the sense that Ex Machina was set in Olympus (analogous to Tiphares in Alita) and Alpha is set in the post-apocalyptic wastelands.
Anyway, I enjoyed it.

Sushi: The Global Catch
A documentary on Netflix. Started off well, interviews with chefs, the auction process at Tsukiji and so on but then descended into an earnest 'message' about the ecological cost. Emerging markets have acquired a taste for bluefin tuna, stocks are dwindling and let's spend the rest of the documentary as a mouthpiece for the Greenpeace hipster.
I hadn't anticipated the eco theme as the Netflix blurb only stated the following: This documentary traces the history of sushi from its origins as Japanese street food to its current status as an internationally popular cuisine.
I then found Jiro Dreams of Sushi, which was what I was actually seeking. This explores the life and craft of Jiro, 85 years of age at shooting, his life story, food, 3 star Michelin restaurant and legacy. If you have even the slightest interest in Japanese food, I highly recommend this beautifully put together documentary.

Hyena on Netflix about a corrupt detective falls down the rabbit hole trying to fix his worsening problems.
Really good watch and use of colour. Savagely violent in parts.
Not too bad but I think the ending was disappointing. Either there will be a sequel or they didn't know how to end it.Really good watch and use of colour. Savagely violent in parts.
The Worlds End. I know this is probably the weakest of the Pegg/Frost trilogy but it's still quite amusing. I think I prefer the first half as it got a bit daft in the second half. Being a 90's teenage the music and memories bit was very well done, the aliens not so much. It's still a 7/10.
Battleship last night on telly. Was quite fun, against my expectations.
Plot is aliens are fought off by the US navy (I know, sounds odd). I didn't like the lead character actor, Rihanna had a part and clearly had lines scripted just to get her into the movie so that was a bit awful. Plot had much weirdness that didn't make sense, and yet....overall....it was very enjoyable and worth a watch if you haven't see it.

'Snitch', starring Dwayne Johnson.
Far from the worst film he's done (he does a good job with the material) but the logic of the plot just didn't hold up at all, neither the what nor why of his actions ever made any sense. If you've seen it you should know what I mean, if you haven't seen if I'm sure you can find something more useful to do with 112 minutes other than watching this film.

Got a new TV & soundbar on Wednesday so gave it a good run of games & films.
The films:
Lego Movie: 12/10 a movie with Lego (& approximately the 4th time I've seen it). chris Pratt as a Lego man, by default it just wins.
Babadook: 6/10 A Mighty Boosh type character uses a childrens horror book to stalk some lady & her young, extremely annoying, son. Hilarity ensues.
Silent Hill Revelations: 7/10 Spooky spooks come from spooky town & kidnap a girls dad to make her come to spooky town. V. spooky, well, sort of spooky. Music was cool.
Star Trek Into Darkness: 10/10 Seen it before but remember it being pretty good visually so decided to re-watch for TV testing. Visually was amazing but thanks to the new soundbar & the monolithic Enterprise engines I now need new windows & new neighbors would be nice.

Arggghh! Enjoyed it right up to the end. Had to rewind the TV a few times to ensure it wasn't broadband on the fritz. Enjoyed right up to that point, annoyed me more than the ending to Kill List. Also Babadook. Quite good, but shoddy ending.
To be fair, I do have the depth of a puddle, so prefer endings where the baddies all end up dead and goody rides off in to the sunset. Dredd is a 19/16 in this regard (where is not getting a follow up, I feel the need for the Dark Judges).
