Dunkirk

Fails to capture the scale of the event with just a few hundred extras. I doubt the beach front was in that good a nick and the whole thing was covered by around half a dozen aircraft. However, I enjoyed it overall and felt they got the point across focusing on smaller things - a couple of officers, a story of a handful of soldiers, a couple of pilots, one civvy boat. Was the Stuka sound genuine? Sounded amazing and scary played loud through a mediocre sound bar.
I agree with all your points but was fantastic on the big screen with a decent cinema surroundsound. It really made it!
Unfortunately the incorrect seats in the train at the end spoiled it for everyone.…

Apparently
3/10 from me!

Was considering this but apparently it doesn’t have the 4k directors cut, just the theatrical version which is a real shame. And no Atmosphere or dts x, just a poxy 5.1.
To me, you are talking in another language. I feel like I should know what you’re talking about!

Translation: It's the version that was shown at the cinema, not the Director's Cut. And it has ordinary audio rather than super-duper audio. smile

Finally watched Wonder Woman at the weekend and can honestly say it was dull, slow, turgid and just hard going - I paid £1.99 to rent it at least and not the £20 odd to catch it at the cinema and for that, I was thankful as I'd have been most annoyed.

The whole story really dragged on and it felt like the action was just done by numbers: Scene, scene, action, scene, scene, action, etc. I was actually glad when it finished and can say that, while not the worst film of the year I've seen (I'll leave that to Planet of the Apes - But that was a terrible film) it was not a great film.

It got to the point where I just spotted similarities with so many other films and I was just calling them out as it showed a distinct lack of original thought... Marvel does it better is how I'd sum it up

Old boy - spike lee version
Nothing particularly memorable about this at all and it's just too plain and too weird at the same time. Even the infamous "hammer" scene is boring compared to the original and the reveal takes far too long.

Atomic blonde
I enjoyed this and far more gritty than I thought it would be based on the trailer. I just thought it was going to be a 300 of my movies but it did better than that

The foreigner
The trailers make it out to be a simple action revenge movie but i thought it focused much more on the terrorism fanatics and the issues of ideology and your past catching up with you. Definitely my surprise film

Love Actually 3/10

It's one of 'our' Xmas Films.

I don't really 'get' it.

I find the Gift Wrapping Mr. Bean irritating, not funny.

Liam Neeson and and Alan Rickman seem like Film Stars stuck in a Daytime Soap.

Martin Freeman only ever plays one Character, Martin Freeman.

Stacy from Gavin and Stacy offers two highlights.

Why is BT Ad man even in it?

Rick Grimes is a snake in the grass isn't he!

Bill Nighy is probably the best bit of it.

The less said about Hugh Grant as a sort of bumbling Tony Blair the better really.

1 Point for Nighy and 2 for Stacy.

I like this film, its got a massive cast of well known people.

Its brain out enjoyable tripe, but in a good way. biggrin
I like it too, in fact it's one of very few Christmas films I like (Scrooged being number 1) and so far this season the only Christmas film I've watched.

I like all the little stories and the cast are great, although watching Rick (from Walking Dead fame) not shouting and murdering is a bit odd now.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Suckered in by the flashy display stand in HMV showing this movie off, I assumed it was THE next best thing and I had just missed any hype about it so bought the Blueray.

I know that some movies are so bad that they are good.
This didn't reach that dizzy height.

That will learn me

Only the Brave - Intiially regretted because at first it felt formulaic and manipulative. But, thanks to some good performances from a talented cast, it turned out to be a movie with real heart and the ending was powerful, sad and affecting. Some people are calling it the best “fire movie” since Backdraft, but I think it was better,

Just started watching the Lucky Man series on NowTV.

Stan Lee meets British police noir, three episodes in and looking good, it makes Spender look jolly.

Agree, I picked up the series on NowTV last night.

I like the way they are pitching the seminal character of the film as a black hat antagonist but I expect he will turn out grey hat in the long run.

Absolutely power corrupts absolutely, is a old theme, but does make for good stories.
I've completed season one and this took a disappointing turn, becoming a rather formulaic political thriller.

Finally watched Captain America: Civil War.

Marvel really have handled the Avengers brilliantly. Compared to "how can we make Superman fight Batman", this seemed positively organic.

Wasn't the deepest of plots, but for an action movie it flowed well, introduced new guys in a far less jarring way than the DC effort and had lots of supers smashing each other up. The physics jarred at times but not enough to detract from the enjoyment.

7/10 as a film, 9/10 for brain out entertainment, but only if you've followed the previous films which get the character dev out of the way.

Life on Sky movies.
A bit average and formulaic but it romps along quickly enough.

I reckon you’re about right with the grading. Plus points for me were the external shots of the ISS and the fact that Ryan Reynolds gets killed off pretty quickly, negatives were basically it’s a poor man’s Alien and that the ending couldn’t have been more obvious if they’d painted the capsules two different colours.

Might want to consider spoiler warnings, dead right about the ending tho!

Mine - seems to be loads of these low budget modern war movies around now.

Not an action film and the story is pretty lame especially how it all starts.

Demolition Man, a 90s classic. I hadn't remembered how impressive (and fit!) Sandra Bullock is in it, she's speaking a completely alien language.

Lots of nice little touches in it, like the swearing the fines and the Schwarzenegger Presidential Library.
