Scary stuff

I know its futile trying to find sense in the such acts, but why do they do stuff like this?

she (presumably) wasn't a rival narco, not a threat, was innocently there - doesn't it just drive the locals to hate the narcos?

Or is it just kill an innocent person to increase the fear?

Ayahuasca - what you do in the same situation given your knowledge?

Her car had broken down next to a known dodgy area where drugs are smuggled in by 'fishermen'. She was in a Toyota Landcruiser and it was thought that the locals might have thought it was a surveillance vehicle.

That particular spot is captured in the top photo in the story linked. You can see the Armco of the highway where she was killed. You can also see my old apartment - we overlooked it at the time.

Loved season 3 - and all the characters were played out really well..

The one thing that is bugging me (maybe I missed it) is how did Miguel get behind false wall...

The DEA had to start drilling the wall but Miguel must have had a way in and out in those few short minutes..

i dont think they could find the entrance or he entered it from another property. the warrant they held was just for that property and the lady was kind enough just to let them in to take measurements.

Narcos hits the spot yet again. As others have said, whatever doubts that that it could hit the heights of series 1&2 were firmly dispelled. And there were some superb characters on offer too - Jorge Salcedo and Chepe Sanatcruz were standouts. The latter in particular was one of the most charismatic yet menacing individuals to hit the screen for a long time.

Series 4 could be epic. I suppose my only concern is how they deal with the absolutely out-of-control brutality that characterises the behaviour of the Mexican cartels. If they try and reflect reality, we're in for some horrific stuff.
Mucho agree . Chepe was played brillianty, as were Salcedo, Swedish actor Matias Varela, great to see him in a big budget production, his Swedish accent breaks thru when speaking English tho biggrin

i didn't know we had a PH'er actually living there. Interesting.

Through watching this and other programmes i still really want to visit as it looks beautiful. I can see past the over dramatisation of some of the programmes but am acutely aware that it's still looking like a dangerous place should one wander into the wrong area.

Then when i watched "Pablos Hitman" the place does still seem to be very much affected by those crazy times and he himself says that people visit for the sole reason to experience the product, do lines off his grave and generally try and live a version of that life.

Is it still the primary exporter of coke? As a pasty Glaswegian would i see other tourist rocking around oout of their minds on coke they had no idea of it's strength?

I dunno, would love to visit. I worked with a guy who's wife is Colombian and seen pics of the Hacienda (now relocated i believe). but she doesn't really talk about it being a bad decision for a holiday.

Thoughts?

I live next door to Colombia.

Colombia is much safer now and I would definitely recommend it as a tourist destination, especially Cartegena and Bogota.

I only met one narco who was in proper narco mode, some years ago. I was working on my boat in a small boatyard on the Caribbean coast and a stranger turned up holding a plastic bag. He pulled out a can of beer and handed it to me. On a hot day in the tropics a cold beer is welcome, but people don't normally just hand them out to strangers..
Then he said - cool as you like - that he was looking for some money that had vanished and did I know anything about it?
Er, no, I said. He said he had a gun in the bag, and that it would go very badly for whoever had taken the money. I told him I knew nothing about it. I drank the beer. He looked at me, nodded and left.

Afterwards I heard that it had indeed gone badly for a few people there.

Not sure what the beer angle was all about, unless as a guard-dropper, or right-hand-occupier.

The problem that Netflix has with the Mexico angle is that Mexico is an on-going live situation. The cartels were long gone from Colombia when Narcos was made so nobody really cared.

Good question. It was the FARC but now they are disbanding I have no idea. I guess some elements of the FARC will continue in the drug business, and the Mexicans seem to run most of the trafficking.

Would legalistion not be a realistic solution to the world wide drugs issue? You would get rid of drugs gangs worldwide, crime and in turn court time and prison populations would be drastically reduced, or is that too simplistic?

Many years ago, a Narco tried to shoot my wife (way before I met her!) because she wouldn't sleep with him!

However, Bogota is reasonably safe now. I was there not long ago and it felt no different from walking round Bangkok / KL / Jo'burg any other large, chaotic city

Well, the current drug laws don't work so, would be good to see but, no politician would ever have the balls to do it. And the CIA wouldn't be able to use them to fund their other operations. biggrin

I was tempted but the ticket prices put me off, seemed steep for what essentially amounts to a live run through of Narcos.

Interested to hear how it was though.

Yep, went to see them in Dec 2016 in London (I posted up a pic at the time in this thread). I seem to remember they started quite late, and we had to leave to get the last train home before they had finished the Q&A, and my overall feeling was that was very pricey tickets for the novelty of seeing/hearing the real guys. But, was an interesting talk nonetheless. Pena is much less sexy in real life. Or maybe more sexy - I dunno what you like! biggrin

Yeah you were right, I left at half time, had other things to do and it was a bit boring basically telling the real life story of what happened. Never Mind.
