Invincible. 18 rated animated superhero show.

Well acted, well animated, straightforward telling of a story in a world of superheros. All the characters are familiar archetypes of heroes and villains, much like the Seven in The Boys are analogous to the Justice League.
But it’s not a comedy or an ironic deconstruction of the genre, which is what you’d except of an 18 rated animated show.

It gets brutal as they show how much damage a super strong being can do to the human body.

I've been watching "Start Up" on Amazon. It's a good distraction from the pain of the elliptical trainer in the gym.

Anywaaaaay, Martin Freeeman plays a crooked FBI agent chasing the crooked dollar in / around Miami in the modern world. It's a pretty good distraction. (You'd also never have thought "Tim Cantebury" would have got laid so often! laugh )
Start Up is great, keep watching as it gets better and better as the seasons roll on...
I'm surprised to learn it's still going. We watched one episode.
They made 3 series. I'm into the 2nd series now, which has Ron Perlman as a main character, and also a producer.

Under the Tree

Movie film thing. Icelandic with subtitles.

Comedy drama with an inevitably dark conclusion.

6.8 spats out of ten neighbours.

Made in Italy. Liam Neeson, Tuscany, family drama.

Utter ste, I bailed, despite the pretty and rustic backdrop.
Bugger, I was looking forward to this tonight!
You might like it, we're all different. Why not watch it and then agree/disagree with me?

smile
I persevered with the film, purely to enjoy the delights of the Tuscany scenery. Other than that, it was a whimsical bit of nonsense. It was billed as a comedy...erm, no!

As above. Nicely shot but not much depth.

That's a shame. Given the storyline and the family's own history, it sounded like there could have been so much more to it. I expect MrsRC and I will watch it at some point.

I didn't realise the son was actually Liam's real life son until I googled it on the back of your post!

It might have been better with some violence, shooting, explosions, car chases, skill sets etc.

I turned it off shortly after the young fella getting walloped in the high school. Just couldn't take to it at all, found it wooden and dull. Probably just not my cup of tea, but does the rest of the episode get any better? I'll give everything 2-3 episodes to give it a chance, so it's not often I turn something off during the first episode.

Well technically it’s probably the other way round. Invincible is an adaptation from comics that have been around for ages. Same guy who wrote Walking Dead.

Can’t say if it gets ‘better’ because I don’t know what you like. Events later in the episode make you realise it’s not just a standard superhero origin story. But it continues to focus on characters and their interactions, so if it’s not working for you, probably not worth watching.

I think we’re alone now Post Apocalypse type end of Human race with Peter Dinklage as a lone survivor cleaning up his town and burying bodies whilst categorising the library until a typical (teenage) girl arrives and ruins his peace. Superbly shot and directed and darkly humorous. Doesn’t have great reviews elsewhere but we really enjoyed this.

5, not politically correct, out of 7 Dwarves.

Stumbled upon an interesting documentary called New Town Utopia.

Focus was primarily on how Basildon came to be but also looks at the long disproved theories as to how live should be lived in the future and the absurd design ideas that people had to endure (heating in the ceiling because the sun radiates heat downwards!!!).

I donated to that film when it was being made via Kickstarter (got a signed Blu-ray and I believe a credit in return) - pleased that it's being watched.

Wow! Good on you fella! We need stuff like this out there so kudos for being part of making that happen!

Oddly I had to pause on the credits to get the names of a few other contributors as I'm sure I used to work with one of them (Phil Burdett) but still none the wiser if its the same Phil Burdett!

As an aside, would you happen to know if anyone involved with the film had any involvement with this music vid?... very similar vibe and feel!

Cheers - it wasn't a big thing, Basildon's been important to my family & I over the years.

Re that video I don't know I'm afraid. There was an active Twitter account at the time though so you might be able to ask there.

I live in an 'award winning' 1972 bungalow.
It won it's award for 3 things - design, cavity wall insulation (not common in 1972) and it's ceiling heating.

One of the things we liked about the place was that it was almost unchanged when we moved in, the only thing added were storage heaters and when we tried to use the ceiling heating we discovered why - it seems very good at heating the top 12" of a room but not so much the rest.
Being resistive foil sheets between all the rafters it's also fearsomely expensive to use, my dad tells me that in 1972 it was widely thought that, as nuclear power came onstream electricity would become 'too cheap to meter'.

We soon installed gas central heating.

The Little Things

Not bad, seemed to drag on though. Could have wrapped it up 40 minutes earlier.
Great acting from the main guys though.
