Almost finished the Elon Musk one after several commutes. Some uncomfortable silences early on, although I quite like that he actually takes the time to think about his response. As time goes on he clearly becomes more comfortable and it's pretty funny at times.

Anybody catch his latest one with Nick Yarris?

Jesus fking christ!

What that guy went through and to come out the other end is nothing short or miraculous.
Listening now - have to keep pausing to compose myself.

I think he's one of the few who is actually willing and interested in having a diverse rang on.

I thought Nick Yarris was an extremely unusual chap. I'm not 100% convinced by him at all.

I couldn't get on with the Nick Yarris episode, eventually switched off. I'm sure many parts of his story were tragic and awful, but there are a few things that don't add up.

Also his way of talking/sobbing (in the parts i made it through) just got annoying. And I don't mean to sound un-sympathetic when I say this, but it just made it extremely difficult to listen to.

Maybe I'll give it another go in the future.

Oh - a thread... Been listening/viewing for a while - actually after my son put me on to him while we were talking about youtube in general. I think it's brilliant and so much better than anything similar on TV - very seldom is someone just there to plug a book with vacuous stories, there's real meat and interesting, intelligent views and 'rabbit holes'; and the long, conversational format is an antidote to the sound bite / 2min 'say your piece' / confrontational click bait interviews usually found on mainstream entertainment. You have room to explore nuance - something badly needed in todays black or white opinion world.

Yarris certainly was unusual, but I think I would be after having endured what he went through. Still demons in there somewhere I feel but his coping mechanism is at least a positive one.

I am glad I was not the only one who thought this. I listened to the whole episode and there was just something not quite right. The more you listened to him, the way he spoke and what he chose to speak about just got increasingly 'off'.

Maybe it is just my naturally cynical outlook on life...

It didn't sound to me like Rogan was convinced either - The part where he tried to project his own challenging experiences and the outcome of said experiences (an advanced level of charisma apparently) onto Joe didn't go particularly well from my perspective - I was impressed again at Rogan's tact and ability to disagree without offending or upsetting the interviewee - In this case a very emotionally vulnerable interviewee.

Still enjoyed the episode, it was just frustrating (from my selfish wanting to be entertained perspective) that the interviewee was keener to discuss his positive attitude to life than he was the incredibly difficult (but incredibly interesting to a bloke in middle England) experiences that lead to him being interviewed in the first place. Kind of reminded me a little of the Tom De Longe episode where by there's loads of interesting stuff he could have talked about, but instead he just rambled endlessly and nonsensically about UFOs.

I'm kind of undecided on him, insofar as I don't for a second doubt there may have been economy with facts over why he had so many run-ins with the 5-oh, (oh just happened to be driving a stolen car right, happens to us all) but does that undermine his story of his experiences. The impression I get from America's criminal justice is once you're considered a "bad egg" you really can be systematically written off, and on the outside find it far more difficult than it could/should be to move on, they're very black-or-white.

Just brilliantly fascinating and one of my favourite JRE's ever. Set aside 2 hours and I promise you won't regret it.
Bit behind the times here, I listened to this at the weekend. Absolutely amazing to listen to him, everything he said made sense to me and if some of the figures he quoted are accurate then they have to be investigated further.

Agreed, the part at the end around the Medical industry is terrifying!

Rhonda Patrick, Lex Fridman and Tyson Fury are the picks from last month IMO.
Nutrition, Artificial Intelligence and Boxing/Life were the respective subjects.

The Peter Boghossian & James Lindsay one was pretty good. Bogus academic papers to crazy SJW journals.

Halfway through the Fury one - was listening in the gym so more than onboard with the "health makes you happy" notion.....but wonder if Tyson saying his depression was "cured" by praying one day and deciding to be heavy weight champ again does much for those with the type of depression that needs medical involvement and a jog wont cut it.

Joe (so far) doesn't seem to challenge him much and just goes along with the "yeah....just set some goals and you're good to go" theory!

Started listening this afternoon. Definite add to the picks, what they pulled off is not only hilarious but also scary.

Nick yarris. The guy is nuts.

He’s posted some loopy stuff on Reddit and similar and then (it seems) replied to his own posts to give some validity to the nonsense.

Has every right to be nuts after what he went through......but very nuts and I would let him near a classroom of kids that he seems to think he does talks for!!!!

Watched Joe's podcast last night and he had on the wrestler Jake 'the snake'. Bloody Nora, he has been through some tough stuff!

A 12yr old girl gave birth to him after being raped by her mother's other half!

Also some great stories of his time with Andre the Giant in there as well.
