I don't think there has ever been a suggestion they are "homing" ravens as much as they are somehow magical?
GRR stays away from the 'it's magic' as an answer. In fact he doesn't even give answers, but he likes his things to make sense, as opposed to the POtter style of pointing a finger and going zapp.
He finally explained the ravens a while back, they are all 'one-way' ravens, some are prety smart and can go 'two-ways' and then there is a raven every hundred years or so that might be trained to gave multiple points.

I thought this, but then it was no secret Dany's fleet was approaching, so you'd assume anyone who'd been occupying Dragonstone decided to make themselves scarce before she arrived?
Erm...good point!!

Wasn't that Storms End rather than Dragonstone?
It was Dragonstone, can't recall who has Storm's End, must be a castellan appointed by STannis.

In the Books, isnt Storms End the place where Stannis is laying siege as theres the bd son of whats his face in there and needs his blood for Meli?

Clegane to die and be reborn via the flames? Given in the book, Beric gave his spark to Kat so she could carry on the fight?

Also, did anyone watch the preview to next week?

Im wondering is Ayra will meet back up with her dire wolf on the journey

At the end of A dance with dragon's it's held by a force loyal to Stannis ( who is still alive at this stage).. Not sure where the published chapters of Winds of Winter come into it so will leave it there!

I found Jim Broadbent more distracting than Ed Sheeran.

Loved The Hounds lines & Sansa's!

Am wondering why no one at KL thought to defend Dragonstone if they knew Dany was headed there? They know it's a weak in their defence after Stannis attacked them from there by sea; they have no ships & Cersei just used all the dragon fire up that helped them win that battle!

Jamie told Cersei that it would be where Dany would land her fleet - we don't know how much time passed between the beginning and end of the episode but long enough also for Jamie to call on Euron Greyjoy and his fleet..

Looking at the map, Dragonstone is only a couple of hours sailing time from KL, surely?

I thought Cersei had already called on Euron?

Cersei called on Euron, Jamie wasn't happy.

Euron had to sail past Dragonstone & already knew that was where his family & Dany would be headed...

They should have been there, waiting.

Yes, my mistake in that respect. But Jamie had already pointed out Dragonstone was the most suited landing point. we just don't know the timescale is all, they've often moved them around a bit during episodes to keep the story going, with bits that happen concurrently being shown much later in the episode

I guess the Lannisters could do nothing about Dragonstone until an agreement with Euron, because they had no ships (or not enough) to stop Daenerys. Stannis had the Royal Fleet and it burnt in Blackwater Bay. They have been fighting a land war ever since so no need to waste resources rebuilding, or forgot or just didn't bother. Other ships at their disposal were Tyrrell and they have unfriended House Lannister.

IIRC It's close enough to land that they could get people there in row boats like Gendry is in, if they had cared...

To be honest I spotted Billy Postlethwaite in that scene well before Ed Sheeran. I don't know how as I don't think I've ever seen anything he's been in. I might be confusing him with Aidan Turner (the vampire in Being Human).

If that's the This Is England lad, he took me out of that scene a bit.

Ravens, being big crows, are really intelligent.

They just read a map and commit the route to memory. smile

I'm a bit curious as to why having a singer in it dragged everyone out of the story....fair enough he was singing but it's not as if he whipped a guitar out and started playing one of his own songs...

How is it different to having Wilko Johnson in the early seasons.? Or any of the easily recognisable faces for that matter...I'm sure I even saw Sean Bean in it once.....

I think it's because he's out of context a bit, I like cameos like that, as long as their performance is on par.

I'm completely dumbfounded by all the negativity towards Mr Sheeran. He is a popular guy both this side and States State of the pond. He is clearly liked by a large percentage of the world given his album sales and sell out concerts. And I for one think his music is good. What would happen if Vinnie Jones wanted a roll in GoT? For godsake he used to be a footballer! I would say that Sheeran is going to start looking for new avenues to expand on the talent he clearly possesses. The role was in context and played to his strengths and he did it well. And it certainly wasn't as bad as Beckham in the latest King Arthur movie!
