Are there any other people that have not watched game of thrones yet?

I seemingly have an unconscious routine of automatically judging and writing off most TV shows, for example, I didn't watch sons of anarchy til 2 years ago. Boardwalk empire I have only just started watching a few months ago!

I haven't actually watched an episode of GoT yet, but I have watched a (big) bucket load of YouTube videos.. How wrong I was to write it off thinking it was just another dungeons and dragons fantasy type crap!

Could anybody tell me should I read the books first and then watch. Or better to watch then read?

I can already see the sopranos being shunted down to number 2 on my list of favourite TV shows.

Cleganebowl by itself is worth the wait for the final season.. I really REALLY want Arya to cross off all the names on her list, leading to her claim the Iron Throne..

What an amazing show, I could never get into the genre until now. Got to be odds on favourite for a spinoff or two?

(I am hoping Bronn will get his castle!)
Number 1: I, like you do the same thing with not getting myself drawn into the hype of a TV series until they are either done all with all seasons or I start many seasons in so I can binge watch. There is nothing more stty than being into a show ans having to wait to see the next episode week after week or worse, like TWD with their bullst mid season breaks. I got lucky with GOT and didnt watch it until it was up to the middle of Season 5.

Number 2: I think only you and my stubborn brother in law still havent seen a single episode of GOTs. I have to say though I envy you. I wish i could experience the magnificence of seeing GoTs with fresh eyes. It truly is THE BEST show IMO that ever existed. I mean that. Nothing comes close to the variety of characters and the perfection of ALL OF IT!!

That being said, sadly Season 7 was way too rushed and a let down. Clearly it was out of synch with its pace and for it made it seem more like a TV show rather than watching a real life documentary of these characters lives.

yeah, it felt like any other show, 'things happen because story needs it,' as opposed to how it used to feel, 'and we check in with so and so who is up to bits and bobs here because they have a character and real life goals' etc....then they interact with 'xyz' over here etc

EXACTLY. You understand what i mean. I tried explaining this to another GoT viewer and they didnt get what i was trying to say, even despite the fact they have seen all 7 seasons.

Completely agree. Also feel the same about 'Cleganebowl' and what a stupid idea it is. I like this quote:

...taking Sandor away from this just so he can fight his brother again seems like a fundamental misunderstanding of the Hound’s character arc. His whole story has been learning how to get away from a life of violence, not leaning into it. Cleganebowl is emblematic of one of my least-favorite aspects of modern fandom: fan theories that emphasize spectacle and surprise instead of character and theme.

See also MCU movies and nearly everything else.

I would never have believed it, but I'm not too fussed about this after two years.

I'll doubtless watch it before spoilers, but TBH I'm not sure I'll need to worry. Even last season wasn't OMG DID YOU WATCH GOT LAST NIGHT!? when I arrived in work.

I don’t really know/care enough about them to comment but the point was more that MCU fan-theories are st at character, rather than the films themselves.

The worst possible result is when filmmakers start pandering to them.

I was chating about this to someone today, who I thought would live/die.
I can see Cersei surviving. I hope Jon SNow doesn't. Any thoughts?

Final episode is a battle so can't really see the impact of who wins i guess, i think it will be ice king, the rest retreat to essos.

We were just talking about this very scenario last night, can’t really see any other outcome. Winter is coming.

Was a bit annoyed that I only got 7 episodes in S7 for my ~£25.

I've just heard Zoe Ball on R2 mention that S8 is only 6 episodes!

I believe they are feature length episodes.
