I was watching in the daytime on a decent and well set up 55" lcd, it was basically a black screen for several minutes biggrin
I watched the last 15 minutes on my phone sat outside during lunch, all I could see was black for most of it!
Even tried to watch it in my jacket but then stopped as people were giving me odd looks

Agreed.

This issue is perhaps well demonstrated by all the online theories linking the return/rise of the White Walkers with humans "breaking the pact" of giving up their male babies North of the wall, when Sam saved little Sam.

Completely fking ignoring everything that happened prior to that...

The whole Azor Ahai stuff has seemingly died. The Red Priests, disappeared. Dorne, seemingly completely irrelevant sidetrack. Same for Essos.

I remember being at around this point of the last season of Breaking Bad thinking "how can they tie all this up" - and over the course of three or four episodes they managed almost perfectly.

I can't say I have any confidence that'll happen with GoT.
There is still a red priest in it. Denis Penis is with Dondarrion.

Good point - but for quite a while now he's just a silent-ish background extra...

I loved the first episode but I get the feeling that it’s all going to be rushed and crammed into 6 episodes to finish it off.

It makes me wonder, GoT is the biggest show in the world with the biggest budget that makes the most money, why does it look like they’re cutting corners and doing it all in 6 episodes?

I remember the final season of Boardwalk Empire ended like that, along with Deadwood but these were sort of niche shows with a small amount of viewers compared to other popular shows so it makes sense as to why they’d try wrap it up as ratings are down and the budgets are being cut.

Does anybody have an explanation as to why the biggest most successful show in the world is being finished this way? I loved the first episode but I feel like I loved it for the wrong reasons, it was too resolved and easy to watch. I’m not complaining but I hope not every episode is going to be like this where it’s rushed.

So silentish in fact that you seem to have not noticed him die beyond the wall last season

I thought he had, but thought maybe I'd missed him surviving when the posters above mentioned him.

It seems to be contractual with the actors.

Lots of them had virtually no real status career - until now. Their value is now immense. Yet the studios don't commit to long term contracts in case they kill the show due to ratings - so you get to a point where the season budgets are up massively, yet the majority is merely spent on increased wages. Plus the pulls from other gigs. See also the Marvel Studios guys and girls.

Plus you get changes like the stars then gaining sufficient power to write out nudity, etc. Emilia seems to be the only one who's then chosen to have nude scenes as they're in context. Natalie Dormer should have had many more boobies scenes, the teasing minx...

The dragon scene was pretty cringey, no chance they could hold on to that when flying around.

Could have been a good plot twist to surprise people with having him just fall to his death in the winterfell courtyard biggrin
Yep the most unbelievable part about them flying around on ENORMOUS FIRE BREATHING DRAGONS was the fact that it would probably be difficult to hold on laugh

I do agree with you though, I was trying to say the same thing to my missus last night when we were watching it, she told me to STFU and stop ruining everything. rolleyes
Well yes, assuming they were real then no chance they could have held on without some kind of harness winktongue out
maybe they're just got velcro heads and horns smile

It is an immense amount of juggling to do. Remember also that they chose to keep the budget the same as the earlier seasons for 7 and 8 but with fewer episodes, so it's not surprising that the story has been rushed to allow the expense of the set pieces which don't necessarily do much for the story.

Retrospectively it should have been more like the crown, different actors for different periods in time.

We might have seen the trident then, and the iron island rebellion etc...

That could still happen.

Those are things mentioned in the books but never fleshed out so don’t make much sense as starting points.

Emilia should have had a lot more too, in the books she spent most of the time after the Dothraki in a dress exposing 1 breast
