Can I speak in defence of Die Another Day?
I won’t deny there are things in it which are irredeemably terrible. Too many to list.
But it has a decent pre-credits opening. Bond being tortured for months during the opening credits was certainly something different. In the past he’s always escaped impossible situations. MI6 reluctantly doing the prisoner exchange was also interesting.
Brosnan had settled into the roll quit well by this point. It’s not his fault they gave him Halle Berry and a rubbish script to work with.
Gustav Graves wasn’t a bad idea for the main villain. North Korean playboy with a love of the high life.
And the film was full of 40th anniversary references, which were mildly entertaining at the time.
I’m not saying it’s any good. But even the worst of them have something I like.
Yes, even the worst (Moonraker) have great saving graces.I won’t deny there are things in it which are irredeemably terrible. Too many to list.

the best thing about the Brosnan bonds were the cold opens. If only they had made films from them!
My fave is probably the TND one.

Agreed, Die another Day had a great intro sequence, in fact the first half hour is quite promising. I won’t deny there are things in it which are irredeemably terrible. Too many to list.

I liked the song, Rosamund Pike & Halle Berry, and who doesn't like an AM Vanquish?
Love the VR scene as well.

Pierce was too old
Rosamund Pike was terrible
John Cleese as Q was a joke that went one film too far
The 40th anniversary stuff is cringey
Gustav Graves is THE most melodramatic baddie in the series and totally over-played
Halle Berry was wooden
An invisible car? Seriously?
Then there’s the obvious special effects issues after that crap rocket sled thing
Madonna
Diamond-face bloke wasn’t too bad and I liked the idea of giving the bad guy’s car some gadgets but it’s a complete wonder how they got from that to casino royale in 4 short years

Sometimes it takes an absolute stinker to make the owners sit up and realise what has happened. Think what happened to the Ford Escort and the Focus.
There was a conscious effort to come back from "Bond in Space" and make the next one as traditional as possible. I also enjoy any of them, although I must say I don't really like the Connery films. I'm not a massive fan of films of that age, and my first Bond film was "Live and Let Die", so that makes a difference too. When they're frequently on the TV, I'm more likely to watch one of them if it's Roger Moore or later.

Or 'The Man With The Golden Gun' and 'The Spy Who Loved Me'. I read somewhere that the former was so badly received that MGM considered abandoning the franchise.DAD is fine up until about the halfway point then it all goes down the drain - invisible cars, CGI surfing, Halle Berry overkill...

I did like the sword fight even if it was a bit over the top, but then it is a Bond Film its supposed to be a bit over the top.
