I knew you'd hate it :-)

I dont think they are competing with Bourne and MI. Bourne is long gone and unlikely to make a re appearance. MI series is Cruise's vehicle, how many more of those does he really have in him, afte hes gone that's dead. Bond will just keep rumbling on.
biggrin
I knew what I wanted for Bond back around the CR/QoS time, and it seemed to be going that way. THen they went all weird and meta with Skyfall which felt very clumsy to me, and then they doubled down with Spectre.
I feel this (sort of agree with that yter) is an exploration attempt to pass Bond onto a new female lead. I think a number of year ago I would have welcomes that, but today, it feels just...well like just about every other established franchise there is. Killer female spies are everywhere. That's just one issue hough, my main worry is that it doesn't know what it wants to be with regards to gritty action yet still trying to claw back nostalgia in a weird way. Makes me wonder who they are trying to attract as viewers. I'm not totally opposed to the film, I'm gonna wait until the next trailer. But there's just hints of stuff that seems a bit whiffy to me...I never would have made the Dr No connexion. But Borne is dead, Tom Cruise has his deal with Satan to not age, not sure who is out here for me to cover this type of film.

Very good (although no-one under the age of 40 will get it).

I'm with you. I'm a bit fed up of the 'pulling some long-hidden 'secret' out of their arse' device that was the basic premise of the last two films and looks like the prop that's holding this one up as well.

Crikey, I hope it isn't Dr No, devoid of new ideas and trying to keep ahead of super spy tom cruise and the bourne bloke they are trawling through the trunk for nostalgia stuff. Spectre was a mess and Skyfall was too wit it's call backs that make no sense in universe. It's all a bit too meta and up it's own bum.
Maybe after all Rami Malek's tiring singing he's playing the other arch-villain Dr No-vocal chords - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fh6EUQ41JU&t=...

So I guess the next big round of wild speculation based on tenuous premises from years gone by is who’s gonna sing the song?
For the love of god will someone please give Muse their go....

I found that massively disappointing in Skyfall.
The word association psychiatrist scene, and Bond’s only reaction was to the word “Skyfall”, which itself was totally out of place in the conversation, had me thinking there was going to be some massive bombshell that rocked the entire franchise.
Oh well......

Yes that will be next, closely followed shortly after by who is going to replace DC.

Singer is usually someone fairly relevant at the time. Who is big and popular at the minute? If its Ed Sherran I wont be happy.

that was one of the things that made skyfall naff for me. It didnt really make any sense, He was given the word skyfall which was the name of his parents house, then he said "done it" in relation to falling off the train on the bridge at the very start. Just seemed stupid and a way of getting the name of the film in the film like a weird kind of 4th wall.

Then the whole baddy got locked up just to escape plot with a convenient route with trains crashing through tunnels just in time. I know you shoulnt try to poke plot holes in james bond films, After all they did have a fight on the moon. but something about skyfall just made me think this is stupid.

Also the old timey throwbacks have been done to death. And the product placement.

Indeed. The house has been empty for decades and yet there’s still a few essential McGyver items in the kitchen drawers, and the gamekeeper who hasn’t seen you for years is still around.
The whole “Skyfall......Done” line in the psychiatrist scene....why include such a specific phrase in amongst a list of normal everyday words, if it wasn’t significant? It had an air of “Don’t go there, you’ve stepped over the line” about it and I was so hoping the storyline would somehow do just that.
And it simply didn’t.

‘Course what would’ve been really mind-blowing was if “Skyfall” was the code word for an agent to give up the pseudonym “James Bond” (as per previous suggestions that it’s actually an alias/cover story) hence DC’s reaction to the word being uttered.
Could’ve paved the way to a Dr Who style reunion with all six actors appearing in one scene, what with it being the 50th anniversary and all that.

Mr Craig was rumoured to not want to do another one. It shows in his acting.
Fcurse me you’re good. You watch a 2 minute trailer (which contains very little other than ‘action shots’) and you critique the guys acting for the whole film which hadn’t been released yet. Do you do the lottery numbers too?
Yes. Strange that we are getting so much comment on how the film will be from such a short trailer. Being bond It would be remiss of the producers not to include typical Bond action / cars / girls / villain.

A friend in the film world says that trailers can be made up of early takes / dailies in order to give the public an early taste of the movie.drivingshoot
I meant, he seems very scowly and grumpy in the trailer laugh

But that's for the hehe as you both had melt downs that someone might have criticised a film.

I quite enjoyed that scene where it started with "I might say "day" and you might say ..." "wasted". That set the tone and the Skyfall prod was intended to illicit a negative response, which it got.

It was "Done." in the sense that Bond wasn't going to respond to anymore of the word associations. He got up and walked off at the same time.
