Thought we could get a better deal so called them this evening to do some haggling but they didn't seem to care, kinda thought they would discount or go through a retention department but no
That seems to be how they play it now. It's happened to a few people I know. They ring up to try to get a better deal by saying they will cancel, and sky just say "ok then, I'll cancel it for you now. No problem"Back in the good old days my dad would ring up 'to cancel' on an almost yearly basis and get money off!
I've only rang and complained once and that was a couple of years ago. They knocked my subscription down to about £20 a month, gave me the HD package and a new box for free.
The price is steadily creeping back up now though.

In most cases they know that you can only get Sky in your area, so the leaving to another network trick won't work.Back in the good old days my dad would ring up 'to cancel' on an almost yearly basis and get money off!

Can't believe the amount some people are paying. Does nobody do anything other than watch the TV nowadays ?
Kindof.Problem with all these "deals" is the circa £18-20 on a line rental that in my case I have no telephone plugged into since I already get free calls on my Mobile.
I watch a lot of Sports coverage. I would quite happily pay £50 for every sports channel available. Sky1-5+F1, Eurosports, BTSports. All in HD, and ditch National Geographic and the kids stuff. Plus half decent 100mps+ Boradband.
But of course you can't do that. So you're paying probably 50% of your fee for stuff you don't view or utilise. I find the fact they can do this seemingly without scrutiny from OffCom very odd.
You'll get emails for months and months after cancellation offering you 20, 30, 40, 50 and finally 60% off a 12 month contract.
I refuse to take the bait, even though I can't watch my football (mind you, United are still ste this season, so no big loss!) or F1 (Mercedes 1-2 again...)..
We have a BT box as we have BT Broadband and a Freesat box. Between the two, I'm mostly happy with the extra 50 quid a month in my account!

What I don't understand with Sky, is that you PAY somewhere between GBP25 and GBP70 EVERY month, and then the TV programs have adverts in them.
And you Sky+ everything (using the excellent EPG) so you never ever watch an advert.Typically Sky progs start 2 or 3 mins after the advertised start time whereas BBC typically start 4 or 5 mins after due to plugging its own programs. No adverts during the footy or films (unlike ITV).
Actually just about to cancel Sky myself, due to the new alternatives (and it is pricey), but I find it is usually people who have never experienced Sky who slag it off. The quality is Sky(ha!) high with loads of great stuff not available on the main "free" channels (or ahead of time e.g. Game of Thrones).
Just think the game is now changing with Netflix, KODI etc.

I can't see this new game lasting long though.Typically Sky progs start 2 or 3 mins after the advertised start time whereas BBC typically start 4 or 5 mins after due to plugging its own programs. No adverts during the footy or films (unlike ITV).

Kodi gives you the opportunity to watch any tv program or film ever, whenever you want, without adverts. The ability to watch freeview/freesat, record/pause etc them. Stream any program you can get to any other device you have, in or out of the house.
Sky seems like the dark ages to me now. record a program to watch later? why on earth would I do that when I could just search for it, or anything I can think of.
But how long can it realistically last?

I've just binned off my Sky subscription, after realising that everything that I watch I can either use Netflix or Now TV for. I wa paying £42 a month for the Sky sub, and now I'm paying £12.49 and watching exactly the same stuff, including all the Sky 1/Atlantic/Living/Discovery/Nat Geo programming, and the Sky Boxsets
Only potential downside I can see is that you need to have a reasonably decent broadband connection.
