Car SOS - how good are their restorations?

I enjoy the program but the emphasis on Tims blagging annoys me as it's vertualy unbelievable and sometimes a bit under minding of the professionals involved. I would rather that time was taken up with explaining more on what's involved for anyone considering a restoration.

It's totally unbelievable but it's meant to be, that's part of the fun for me.

Many times on Car SOS I have spotted some of the other cars featured sitting in the background in a semi repaired state, so they can't be knocking them all out in two or three weeks.....

Hi - Back in 1984 I was presenting a programme called "The Motor Show" for the then new Channel Four. We bought an old very rusty MGA from the SH Richardson MG scrapyard behind the Staines reservoir, and then took it to Colchester Tech where there was a new course in car restoration. Under the scrutiny of the instructors it was taken back to a bare chassis and rebuilt. Still the best restoration I've yet to see on TV. Cheers Chris Goffey

We all know Mr Goffey’s size from the legendary thread. As mentioned before he is very large in the Oxfordshire drifting scene where he has a maroon 345DL with an LS3.

This is quite common - I used to watch "American Hotrod", where the ridiculous deadlines were among the most annoying parts of the programme, and despite those deadlines, you could always see other project cars in the workshop.

Just watched the Lancia Flavia coupe old edition and the 74 Corvette that's on tomorrow was in the workshop.

I missed some of these first time around.

Finally saw the Fiat 850 sport spyder edition couple of weeks ago.

I would be interested in a tour of their workshops, even if it was on youtube.
There seems to be quite a few interesting things sitting in the background throughout the series and the stories of those would be more interesting than the filler they put ion the programme.

Exactly - it's entertainment people - if you want a widget by widget purely mechanical programme - head to Youtube - there are plenty of videos - most with about 20 views. Some of the grumpy old men comments on here are ridiculous. Like it or not - human interest sells TV shows.

I know one of the cars on the upcoming series (I think I saw that series 8 starts in March?). Not sure I'm allowed to say what car it is but the setup is all totally standard Car SOS - interesting backstory (though in this case the tragedy was years and years ago), deserving owner, car that's sat in a shed for a couple of decades, near-complete restore.

The owner's son was saying that it was really unfinished for the reveal - I think it ran for about 5 minutes, seat wasn't fixed in (so passenger had to help with gear changes for the 'driving off at the end bit), and lots of other details missing. Tbf they took it back and finished the job and I think they're very happy with it now.

The owner's family turns up and whines about how awful the car is. Tim nominates an almost impossible date for the handover.

Fuzz and the workshop crew pull another all-nighter. Somebody reattaches a rear light lens.

Tim then explains how he's going to dress up as a pirate and pretend to attack the owner's wife whilst she's at Lidl. When her husband leaps to her defence, Fuzz will run him over with the car. Ta Daa!

Family clambers into the car and everyone waves as the owner drives it straight to WeBuyAnyCar.com

LOL. ( very good). I know it’s an old post but only just reading through this thread. Does anyone know if Fuzz’s dress sense is as bad in real life. I couldn’t imagine the missus wanting him with her in Sainsbury’s to get the weekly shop.
