I love the show, as for Tim’s credentials, WIKIPEDIA Tim Shaw, an interesting read (especially, at the end of 2006 Shaw interviewed Kitty Hart- Moxton). As for Fuzz Townsend, there is no doubt he is a lover of all things omnibus and all things car related, as well being more than a bit handy with the spanners and a hell of a lot more.

The segments with Tim blagging, seems not popular on this thread, you want car programs accept it. Now we have WRC, F1 (which we always had) TG, TGT, Fast n Loud and Car SOS and many more. These need to appeal to the masses. Back in the 70’s we were lucky if we had a bit of Rally-cross on a Saturday afternoon and the RAC rally once a year. Now we have a plethora of them, with differing degrees of success.

If in doubt, check out car SOS, Car SOS S03E02 Awesome Audi, a genuine petrol head, and two people who are genuinely in to all things automotive, "Give it some beans"

What more do you want!
I agree wholeheartedly. I think some people just come on here to complain just for attention. I think it’s the best car programme by a square country mile.

If that’s the case then the poor chap who owned it must have passed away.

I went to the Car SOS exhibition at the national motor museum at Gaydon last month. Think they had 7 cars in total.

Iirc sadly that is the case. Within a year of the car being finished.

I thought that was mentioned on the programme itself? But then I only watched it when it got to terrestrial TV, so that might have been added.

Apparently it's already been auctioned, raised around £20k - https://www.autoclassics.com/posts/news/car-sos-au...

I think it’s because he cheated on his wife she found out and sold his brand new Lotus Esprit V8 for £0.36 (back when he was a radio DJ).

But fidelity issue aside from what he’s done on tv it’s great fun.

Fuzz his music is well - a required taste.
Let's not cast aspersions, he didn't cheat on her.

Wikipedia said:
Shaw's wife, Hayley, sold her Lotus Esprit, worth £25,000, for 50p on eBay after he told Jodie Marsh live on air that he would leave his wife and two children for her. Hayley placed the lot on the auction site at the 'buy it now' price of 50p with the description 'I need to get rid of this car in the next two to three hours before my husband gets home to find it gone and all his belongings in the street.' The car sold within five minutes.[9]
Wow, I never realised that was him!

I remember when this happened, it was whilst I was at uni and on another forum I used to frequent someone linked to the ad, It had of course already sold, and I was very jealous as I could easily have go to London within the hour to collect it. Whether I could have insured it or not as a 20-ish year old student, I rather doubt.. but still.

I'm always surprised / saddened by the amount of the cars that are either sorn'd or not taxed by the time the tv shows are shown. I have got into the habit of checking them when the new series are on and a good 75% are not on the road.

Reference the Quattro, they did a follow up program with about 6 cars from the series.

It was mentioned then the owner had passed away I believe.

A lot seems to go on off camera as basically a dustpan of rust is restored to brand new car and all that seems to happen is Tim haggling over an authentic steering wheel.
Some episodes are truly tragic stories and others look like some lazy git getting their car done.

Fuzz is usually pretty quick to respond via the carSOS Facebook page, if you’re a member?

Tim is a bit marmite but both seem pretty genuine chaps. Fuzz worked on Practical Classics magazine for years and his restoration company has a good reputation.

I remember one episode (I think it was the integrale) where mid restoration the poor chap died - to me from the start he visually didn’t appear as bad as some but what an emotional show.

It showed the real passion and of the team. Some people may have thought Fuzz and Tim are jack the lads but the way they dealt with it was fantastic.

New Series (#7) starts on Thursday https://en-gb.facebook.com/carsosofficial/

To herald the new series, there have been lots of repeats shown over the last few days. With the usual caveats regarding Tim's 'blagging' adventures which are tedious, I do think it's a good series.

The stories behind why the owner hasn't restored the car are generally quite touching.
But at the risk of appearing massively cynical... I can't help think that many of the cars were dogs when they were bought. As a result. shortly after purchase, the car inevitably wouldn't start, failed the MOT or started to fall to bits. The owner hasn't the ability or funds to repair the car or get it repaired. Offloading the car would mean taking a fairly large hit, so it's left in a damp garage or under a tarpaulin. However, the owner still can say "I've got a <insert impressive car here>" down the pub.

Against that background, many of the restorations are very good.
I don't think many restorers would even touch them, I can't imagine they would be cost effective compared to buying a recently restored car.

Note that the first two episodes (Land Rover) are a different series from the rest of the new episodes - at least they are on Virgin.

My brother went to see the filming of the first episode at Gaydon, british motor museum, before christmas. The owner has some kind of history with LR
