Anyone else tempted by one of these? I start a new job shortly and will be looking to order one via the car scheme for sept delivery, though i have no idea on current lead times.

Yes, tempted too as a new family wagon, but want the estate version which I'm not sure will be offered as a plug in hybrid. I'm assuming the petrol engine is the 1.5 on mini cooper s and i8?

Guy in my work has just ordered one. As I understand, the drivetrain is the same as the 330e (which I have) - 2.0T petrol + the electric motor driving the rear wheels.

I sat in a new 5 last week when dropping our other car into for a recall (sorry, "performance enhancement" as they described it!) at BMW, it was a lovely thing indeed.

I was tempted then went for the full fat.... I mean skimmed 740e as theyre not that much more after all the deals available and notably more powerful than the 530e. Plus better kit and amazing interior build quality.

Makes sense if you have your own company, not sure theyre worth the aggro of charging and right foot nannying if you cant take advantage of 100% write down then the low bik.

Interestingly they're not showing on the BMW Switzerland site. We don't have any real tax incentives to go for them but it's not as if the market is against electrified cars - the Model S sells almost the same volume as the 5 series. Maybe they've viewed that without tax incentives they don't make sense?

In this class the Volvo S / V90 T8 looks rather nice.

I've ordered a 530e.

Test drove a 225Xe and a 330e. Liked the drive-train in the 330 much more than the 225. Everything driving through the same gearbox feels much more natural.

Since it's a company car I'm tied in to keeping it for 4 years, which is the real downer with the 330e as by the time it arrives (currently quoting 22 weeks) the updated 3 series will have been shown and be quite common on the roads well before I've had the vehicle a year.

So 530e was the choice. Same engine/motor, bigger battery capacity and a brand new model. Taken a couple of months to get pricing sorted, seems BMW didn't release the full details till the last minute. Good news so far is that this means I'm closer the front of the queue so delivery is estimated for the end of May.

Priced a bit higher that the 3 for lease, so ended up with an SE rather than M-Sport. Basic spec if very generous so not had to add much.

Now just waiting for a confirmed order and build week.

Hi , I'm picking my 530E this Thursday.
I test drove a 330E (too small) and 740E (too expensive) , and was also interested in the V90 ....but not available for a while ...so the 530e it was, as a company car it still makes alot of sense.
I'm coming from a 3 yr old V60 D6 hybrid, so will appreciate this new car alot ... i think .
have fun
Matt

I've got a 48 hour test drive today of a 530e Msport

So far very impressed. Averaged 40+mpg on a 35 mile m-way drive. I have it on charge now and will see how I do on the commute to work tomorrow. (23miles). The performance is impressive, and totally seamless as to whether you are on the ICE or electric motor.

The new idrive is very impressive to, and I love the ability to write characters on top of the idrive controller for address input.

I have a Merc E350e over the weekend so will be interesting to see how they compare.

In the merc e350e now. Total pants compared to the bmw. Only managed 14 miles of easy cruise before battery flat (19 miles of more enthusiastic driving in the bmw). Plus a number of weird lurches and lunges from the car when slowing and then accelerating at t junctions...

I was really interested in the 530e (through the company car scheme) but I just don't think the real world fuel economy makes sense for a high mileage business user.

So, I'm now close to ordering a 520d - even though I really don't want another diesel car.

Shame the Teslas aren't available via lease companies yet.

Ive got some real world mpg figures now Ive had my 740e for a few weeks....I'd imagine the 530e would be somewhere between 330 and 740?

If I dont charge it up, Ive been getting circa 40mpg in general driving, on a long run keeping to speed limits yields another 5mpg or so average. Not bad for a big bus.

Luckily my office is 7 miles from home so if theres no meetings to go to I can commute purely on electric and leave to charge at home overnight.

Main downside is the size of the fuel tank meaning frequent fuel stops if doing big mileage.

Have you got yours now? Any feedback on it please as I'm about to put an order in...

Yes I have mine now. I'm very happy with it.

I charge as often as possible, my main daily commute is 15 miles each way through the edge of the peak district - twisty roads, some at national speed limit, lots of up and down hills.

Generally I can get to work and back, little petrol on some of the higher speeds or higher accelerations, battery lasts there and back.

Going to work I can get 100+ mpg without any effort, certainly NOT turning off heating/AC and driving like a granny. In fact acceleration on pure electric is very good 0-30, foot hard down using both engines it soon gets to naughty speeds.

Worst mpg was a week in Norfolk with packed roads and no charging. Tank still gave 40mpg, which is the same I was getting from my TDi Skoda VRS on average. Other tanks have been 70-80mpg.

The rest of the car is very impressive, quiet, handles well, comfortable (though I specified sports seats which helps). Driving around town on electric is actually quite fun. Always feels responsive, fast and able to sit at any speed.

Let me know if you have any specific questions. So far I'd recommend it, and most people have been impressed with it.

Got mine 2 weeks ago, just got it broken in (2000km). Love it, it is worth the wait. So easy and smooth ride after F10 520d manual 2011.

How long did it take from order? I'm still getting late Jan from my lease company but hoping it will come sooner. Ordered mine in July. Enjoy.

I'm from Finland, so it is different here. But I got little lucky, I had to wait only 2 months and three weeks.

I have a 2016 330e and have an order in to replace it with a 530e. One question that has confused me:

The spec sheets for the two vehicles show a petrol engine at 180 hp -- the same. But the 330e shows a 76HP electric motor and the 530e shows a 111 hp electric motor. But both spec sheets show the same total hp. How can that be? Have they put a governor on the 5 series to meet various governmental requirements (e.g. special plates in California)? If yes...can that be coded off?

The spec sheets are confusing for the 530e. One portion of the bmw uk webpage says the petrol engine is 250bhp on its own. I think the petrol and electric motors are the same in 330e 530e and 740e with the power levels set by the ecus. But hard to find actual facts on any of this!
