LOL@DonkeyApple >>Cockney Jong Un is going to pop up at some point gabbling some form of crazy lingo.<<laugh

I'm happy with that clip and will FORCE my lad to watch it instead of thinking about kicking a bl00dy football and plastic overpriced trainers all the timebiggrin

More to the story than meets the eye then but I'm sure Edd will be back - the Mike act is not hard to replace (and I quite like Cockney Jong Un actually) smile

That video about the turbo looks a lot like the YouTube extra videos they used to do with Edd before. I think there was one for each episode showing more detail on aspect of the work. I preferred them to the actual episode.

I can't see that segmentmaking it into the show uncut, but am prepared to be proved wrong.

Anyone think Ed was pushed rather than any other reason.

I liked watching him but happy to watch someone else.
These scenarios are nearly always about money.

I think Edd had a stake in the WD brand/show and was perhaps 'persuaded' to sell out.

That small segment of Ant working on the turbo was at least as good as (if not better) than any of the technical segments Ed China ever did. I'm really looking forward to the new series (especially if they are working on better cars then they have recently).

Not a chance, On the American networks the network always owns the format rights. Even with UK commissions, which are much better with rights issues, its usually the production company that owns the rights, almost never the presenter (usually only when the presenter owns the production company making the show).

Presenters are just hired hands with very little control over anything, they seldom even get a say on tweaking the format.

I'm surprised Edd just left (seemingly) without warning. Surely it would have been far more lucrative and professional to have a gradual handover to a new presenter and keep some interest in the WD show.

Like someone said, he seems to be at a loose end now doing cameos in Binky (the 4WD mini), painting his fence and selling out to advertisers.

Unless you are Top Gear presenters or own the prod Co (like Graham Norton/Coogan etc)... Doesnt look like Mike did own Attaboy like I assumed.

And I'm sure the format selling houses like Endemol/Talpa etc don't hand over the rights to the format they devised to US networks when selling The Voice, X Factor, Strictly, 2 bearded shouty welding greasers etc?

I do as well but I've no idea why he has taken to painting his skin off yellow. I do prefer a time weighting that favours the workshop stuff over Mike's though. Maybe now they've got a pretty boy in to replace the BFG they'll give that more air time.

Agree with the rest, that link was very good and it would be good if those kind of bits made it into the show but then, why couldn't Edd do those sort of bits?

More to this that has been talked out I think.

Will wait for the first episode to judge though

Does Edd still do his "whacky racers"

I can remember when i went around 8 years ago (was a 21st birthday present) Edd was there managing the day himself, and drove the road legal bed around town himself.

In an attempt to get a definitive answer, I had a dig around on Companies' House and it doesn't look like Mike or Edd have any connection with the original production company. Mike is a director of (obviously) his own garage in Sheffield, alongside 4 other people. Prior to January 2013 it was called Evolution E-Commerce Ltd. So I guess he bought into the business (or more likely they contracted the rights) so they could trade with his name. Either of which probably makes good business sense.

As a career motor dealer, isn't it odd that he doesn't show as having any previous directorships? Edd has several, a couple of which he resigned from this year, but that was probably to deal with TV contracts.

Attaboy's Info is (redacted for brevity):

SHAW, Anis Correspondence address Halifax, West Yorkshire
Role Active Secretary Appointed on 20 March 2008

SHAW, Andrew David (Same address)
Role Active Director Appointed on 20 March 2008

Resignations (March 2008)
ALLUM, Daniel Edward Correspondence address London, SE13
CHETTLEBURGHS SECRETARIAL LTD Correspondence address London, EC2A
WOOD, Michael Correspondence address High Street Shoreham, Sevenoaks, Kent

It is refreshing to see how Ant Anstead conducts himself on Twitter. He is getting a bit of flack for not being Ed China (yes - people are moronic) and he responds politely requesting that viewers give it a chance. Compare this to MB who reacts very badly to anything negative that is said and blocks them from following him.

Anstead was Plod for a while so he's had extensive, top level training on how to handle large numbers of low functioning monumental cocksockets.

Personally I think Brewer is far too polite when dealing with the fruit and veg of British society.

I can forgive them the $$$ thing. In the U.K. there are 7 people who watch car programs and few of them are likely to buy stuff from the adverts shown, in contrast to millions of Americans who will watch an advert and immediately buy a jetski or box of tampons
You've been looking at my recent purchases list again?

That one-touch buying just makes it so easy I can't help myself!

Mike Brewer. seemed to go all defensive from the outset with people stating basic opinions about the show when it moved to the US.

I still watched the US shows but some of the cars were utter ste that only Americans appreciate. The late 80's Mustang was a piece of st. In England it always had a middle aged men tinkering in a shed quality even when it was scripted with the poor buyers acting out the deal at the end.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if Edd China gets his own show in England and the ratings out perform Mike and Ant.

Always amazes me how so many people feel the need to contact these presenters and tell them how crap they are, how mistaken they are, how the person messaging will never watch again.... Its only TV! Go and do something else if you don't like it. Sheesh. Forum discussions are 1 thing but contacting these people and hurling abuse is a weird thing for adults to do.

It's the unfortunate downside of social media making it so easy for people to put opinions out there, people believing these TV shows actual reflect any sort of reality (they really don't) and getting emotionally involved in them, and presenters feeling they have to have a social media presence in order to continue to get work. Having said that viewers have always done this, it's just that they used to write in via snail mail (and bizarley some people still do! ) and so it wasn't publicly visible.

A US audience is far more valuable, so they will call the tune. Most UK shows never even see the light of day in the US, so wheeler dealers have done well in that regard. As for the poor actors bit, it's part and parcel of the mechanics of making telly. If you just turned up at peoples houses unannounced with a camera crew, 99% of the time you'll be told to ps off. You've got to mic these people up, introduce them to the talent & crew, explain to them whats going to happen, tell them not to look down the barrel of the camera etc. These things are usually never scripted, they just appear so as what ends up on screen is usually the 5th or so take, and the punter having said the same thing 5 times, it no longer sounds natural.
