You see it's BS like this that muddies the water and gives them more ammo to use racism as an excuse for people not liking TLJ. I didn't like the Rose character because her motivations and actions were illogical, her acting was wooden and basically all she achieved was to save a few CGI animals and spout some PC rubbish about "bad rich people". It had nothing at all to do with what ethnicity the actor was but this will now be all people remember.

Some so called "fans" really do the franchise no favours at all.

Couldn't agree more. Complete bellends anyone doing this kind of thing. There's even people suggesting this was a stunt (why only instagram?, why now? etc) to throw even more shade into the situation. It's a total mess right now, Lucas must be laughing his ass off.

Sounds reasonable, when one sees how Sony attempted to create the whole Ghostbusters narrative...it's like they don't understand that the very same tool, the web, that they use to manipulate the scene can be used to totally undo their fabrication.

I'm always a bit wary of stories like these. If the abuse had been widespread and as bad as the story makes out - where is the evidence? It's so easy to screenshot stuff.

I have no doubt that Tran did get some flak - and even received a few extreme messages from disturbed truly racist individuals - but I highly doubt these people form a significant proportion of the Star Wars fan base.

It was the same with the Cathy Newman/Jordan Peterson interview fallout. C4 apparently had to call in security experts etc - yet there is very little evidence that the widespread abuse that she apparently suffered even happened. What did happen however is that the criticism she received over her interview technique and the way she tried to intentionally trip Peterson up by trying to put words in his mouth was swept under the carpet because she was now the 'victim'.

The timing is also a little odd, coming many months after TLJ was released and just as the realisation is dawning at a high level within Disney that Solo has bombed. Could this be just another form of doubling down. What better way to prove that the SJW nonsense you are putting into your movies is relevant or necessary than to have one of your 'women of colour' supposedly receive anonymous online abuse from 'manbabies' and have to delete her Instagram as a result. It's also pretty easy to fake online abuse - as appears to be the case here:

If she has suffered the type of abuse the article suggests - then it is of course deplorable, but i'm more than a little skeptical due to the way Disney have acted over all of this.

Loads of screenshots out there that I have no reason to disbelieve and I recall seeing a fair bit 'as it happened' over the past few months. I think automatically assuming it's a Disney/PR thing is just exacerbating the problem, which clearly does exist, and I think it's more than just a couple of bad eggs out there.

There is a reasonably sizeable group of people who aggressively deny Sandy Hook to the point of harassing victims parents. Never underestimate just how nasty a bunch of largely faceless people can be.

...and Return of Kings? C'mon. Even though I assume PH is 99% white male I never expected a link to be posted here from that site in all seriousness.

She probably did suffer some abuse. Thousands of racist or misogynistic people out there on the internet who could have provided it.

The timing of this however suggests a PR stunt as a number of media people are finally starting to admit that TLJ badly damaged the brand. What better time to reassert their message that the only people who had a problem with TLJ are bigoted.

Exactly the same thing happened with the Ghostbusters remake.

Never heard of it before......that link just came up as an example of people apparently faking abuse for the sake of publicity or to support an agenda.

I don't know what, if any agenda the people running that website have, but the story about Anita Sarkeesian is genuine (reported on many independent websites) - and I do agree with their analysis that the posts themselves, and especially the timing of them look rather suspicious and convenient.

Yep - I accepted that possibility. Whilst any abuse is terrible for the individual who is the target, just how bad a problem is it in the grand scheme of Star Wars fans? There must be millions of dedicated fans worldwide - and many tens of millions more casual fans.

So even if the abuse does stem from thousands or even tens of thousands of individuals (rather than a few dozen) - we would still only be talking about a fraction of a percent of the total fanbase.

IMO while not the best SW movie, TLJ is not nearly prequel bad. For one thing Jar-Jar is no where to be found.

The pitch is terrible and the long thread below it just gets hilariously worse. I can't decide if they are more disillusioned that a) Disney would let them do it. b) they could find the money for it. Or c) the final film would be any good.

When so many so called Star Wars fans appear to only like 2 or 3 out of the 10 movies you do wonder why they're devoting so much of their lives to it.
