As good as it may look it probably worth remembering that hardly any of the footage from the Rogue one trailer was actually in the final film
That clever opening shot won't be in the film as there's no way it would fit anything except a blind open of a trailer.

Not as good as the FA trailer but I think that was partly down to the excitement and long wait.

The problem is if you show too much like the recent Spider-Man trailer and people moan. Show nothing like this one and people moan.
Getting trailers right has become a bit of an art form. Academy award for best trailer? It will probably happen.

That was the teaser, not the full trailer that is still to come.

This is the FA teaser, very similar, breathing, darkness, light, BB8 rolling, then brief action - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erLk59H86ww

Since episode 7 could easily be thought of as a remake of episode 4, it's fair to assume episode 8 will be similar to 5.

There will be a cinematic battle near the start. There will be Jedi training. There will a big family/relationship reveal. There will be a lost-cause type ending.
Yep, 7/8/9 are basically a sneaky reboot of the 4/5/6 smile

It suprised me how few people noticed when watching episode 7.

Young force sensitive lead character.
Droid friend(s).
Macho second lead character who is a good pilot.
Old, knowledgeable character passing on the light saber of an ancestor.
Dark force sensitive baddie who is second in charge. Kills one of lead goodies.
Mysterious head baddie.
Planet destroying weapon.
Challenge to get shield deactivated.
Final fight with light sabers.

They're the same film!

Well - we do appear to have atmospheric fighter craft skimming the surface of a planet going up against a bunch of AT-ATs with mountains as a backdrop. scratchchin

If you can ignore the annoying voiceover.

It's true that 7 and 4 are the same biggrin

The opening of the trailer with Rey kneeling on the floor, it made me wonder if that's going to be a scene reminiscent of Luke on Dagobah when he encounters Vader in that cave

No she's just had Luke on piggy back and she's shagged out.

Not sure about the Red Arrows.

Big space fight.

I'm getting a bit worried. I've seen a lot of videos of Mark Hamil on YouTube and he seems to be saying mostly negative things at the moment. Hopefully it's a ruse, but it might not be...

Don't finish filming it for some while yet either.
Unless they are doing extensive re-shoots then filming will have finished some time ago.

According to Rian Johnson (the Director), principal photography was completed on 22nd July last year.
Our eldest daughter is one of the 3rd ADs and they are definitely still filming. What exactly I don't know as she is very good at the keepng it secret stuff. Still got 2 overseas shoots to go I believe.
oops! Seems it IS reshoots and she 3rdcAD on the next spin off film.

I really should listen to the kids more. Apologies for misleading you all.

Negative things about the film? That seems odd as he's usually pretty upbeat about it all and knows it's his meal ticket.

Any links?

Exactly. That's what's got me worried. It's nothing specific, but a general tone.

When I saw it, I instantly thought Empire too. hehe

I'm intrigued to know whether or not the final three stories actually follow what George Lucas wrote. Or have Disney torn the idea up and are just going on what they want to make?

The final three films seem to be rehashes of Lucas' original three... but I think Lucas had something different which Disney declined to pursue. The stories were probably too different to what Disney's brand risk balancing committee would allow them to make into a film.

Indeed. I wonder if they were too dark for Disney to be associated with.

It would be great one day if all of the original story plans were released. I know it may not happen as Disney have spent a lot of money buying them. However, one day down the line when the series has finished, it would be interesting to see how they were going to pan out.

In relation to the latest trailer, it didn't excite me much. Based on FA being so close to the story in ANH, and this one looking so much like ESB, I haven't felt at all inclined to watch it. Will see what the other trailers produce to see if I get excited about it.

Disney has gone much darker in the past than Lucas has ever dared to - 'The Black Hole' for example.
