This is shaping up for excellent television, based on real events.

I can't recall the original incident so don't know the outcome.

Stephen Graham, a fine actor is the lead police officer & the rest of the cast carried the first episode away flawlessly.

Was both shocking & moving. Hopefully the rest of the episodes are to the same standard.

I remember the case. Awful.

Certainly brings it home. My youngest is that wee lads age. Felt choked watching the parents.

It was an emotional episode I remember the case well, my wife couldn't watch the hospital scenes as it was similar to an experience we had 26 years ago.

Thought it was excellent , very sensitively done and some fantastic acting . its repeated at 10.40 tonight on itv. can remember this well and the crime watch footage etc. also the mood in Croxteth at the time as i have family who live just round the corner from the crime scene. a very close knit community of good people plagued by utter scum. even as a yorkie bloke ive never been shown anything but warmth by the folk of croxteth.

Very good start, got me right in the throat, like a kick to the gut.
Loads of great local actors in this.

2nd episode shows how callous people can be, especially given a young lad have been shot dead

Enjoying it too, but it's a really hard watch at times...

I have to say I'm finding it hard to watch considering the callousness of the individuals involved. Being a grass is seen as being a lower form of life than a nasty piece of work who kills kids. Strange society they have there.

It's a bloody good watch, amazing acting from everyone, very gritty, it is so disgusting that there are people in these communities that are like that.

One thing that I am confused about is the bugging of Mercer's house, is that even legal, or is it a case of they can be bugged but it is inadmissible as evidence but the Police can use the information that is recorded to try certain angles to either get a confession or someone to give names out?

I was amazed at that too, that helping police with a murder inquiry is worse than being a cold blooded killer...holy fk, retarded.

The best British telly I've seen for sometime, understated. Only one acting quibble.

It's a bit dated, but bit of information here.

Finding it hard to watch, it's good so far. The acting is brilliant.

Another gripping episode, good to see them start crumbling at the end.
One question though, I was pretty shocked that forensics could be so wrong about the gun and the only reason they went back to test more was due to the insistence of the guy leading the investigation.
Seeing as how this is a reconstruction of the events, I'm assuming this really did happen.

Yes I think it did happen that way round, I guess it highlights how difficult and complex forensic science can be. Superbly scripted and acted, best thing I have watched in a long time and a story that really did need to be told, however hard to stomach.

That was a fitting end to a superb production, albeit difficult viewing at times.

Having now read up on the case, some interesting facts emerge.

The perps & their relatives appear to remain utter scum.

Great series but I feel I missed an episode.

Ep3 ended with one of the lads crumbling but our copper saying no deals as he wanted to get all of them and their parents.

Last night starts with everyone in court.

We dont see how he gets the rest of the lads arrested including Mercer.

All but Mercer are now at large I believe, doesn't seem right to me. Yates sentence was originally 7 years, increased to 12 on appeal but he is walking free now while the Jones family still mourn their loss. Those responsible will always be scum, there have always been people who have no moral compass they must pass it on through their genes and it's frustrating to think that we have yet to find an effective way of dealing with them.

All but Mercer have escaped and are still to be re-captured, when did this happen?!

Served their time, not absconded.
