The Orville - Seth MacFarlane comedy Star Trek
Discussion
That last episode led to some disappointment. Up until e14 I hadn't realised Kelly's deflectors weren't actually real, but instead were engineered.
Agree with the comments above. All the stories are just versions of what has been done before, but done more conveniently and with references to suit modern society. Convenient resolutions dancing around plot holes and oversights. Once the humorous wacky side is pulled back somewhat it becomes something which has all been done before in ST, and done better in it's original version.
This is one of those programmes I watch together with my wife because she likes it too. But if she wasn't watching it I definitely wouldn't be watching it for myself. So I hope the gags, humour, and wacky behaviour continue, (selfishly) for my sake.

I must be in the minority as thought this season lost too much of its comedy and tried too hard to be Star Trek unlike the first
Hopefully we get a third but balanced between both seasons
I've thought the same - sometimes wacky like last season, sometimes pretty much TNG era Trek. Clearly they're trying to cover both and it's a fine line they don't always tread well. Still enjoying it though.Hopefully we get a third but balanced between both seasons

I enjoyed the season again, some of the episodes were decent and I'd hope it gets renewed for a 3rd season.
They do often feel a bit hollow and overly convenient, if I'm honest I prefer the comedy elements over the plots as they're always wrapped up too easily.
I suspect that when TNG aired it was 30 years ago and I was therefore younger and possibly less cynical meaning I was happy to suspend disbelief, but here I'm more 'well no-one would do that!', or 'why isn't that happening?!'
For example; the Kaylon tried to invade but lost, they have dozens of dead Kaylon on board the Orville, they know how to reactivate them as they did that with Isaac, therefore they'd have pulled them to bits to find out everything they knew, and would have told Isaac to help them, they wouldn't have just let him go back to the ship like nothing had happened.
Sending someone back through time when you just don't know it'll work, not knowing about being sent back isn't evidence the memory wipe will work, it's could also mean that she just died in the process, you wouldn't just push the button.
But it's all fine, I can just let that sort of thing slide, it's not essential viewing (unlike Cobra Kai), but I can enjoy it

It's US TV series cancellation time but The Orville has been picked up again for Season 3.

I am still on the fence with this, but I confess I did really enjoy the final two episodes of Season Two. Even my wife liked them!
A lot of the episodes were pure crud though, the worst being that stupid forced relationship between the doctor (Sisko's ex wife) and robot - that was just pure cringe.

If you take it as star trek lite, it's still ridiculous. If you see it as a live action star trek version of Family Guy - not so much; just daft.A lot of the episodes were pure crud though, the worst being that stupid forced relationship between the doctor (Sisko's ex wife) and robot - that was just pure cringe.
