Fairly inoffensive (but then it was ALMOST a Burnham free episode! YAY!), possibly even quite enjoyable at times. But the ending "reveal" didn't need to be so drawn out - it was hardly a big surprise who was operating the tractor beam really.

Somehow in the 10 minutes they were in the time stream, did Tilly manage to eat 40,000 Twinkies?

She must be a good two stone heavier than the end of last series!

Great second episode. Personally, I like the Burnam character & I don’t get all the hate??

Same here. It’s always the same thing, please can we have more Star Trek, more Star Trek arrives, I don’t like this Star Trek.

I thought episode 2 was brilliant, and the bit at the end put a real smile on my face! I don’t remember anyone saying less Kirk or less Picard. She is the main character.

Although I liked it and will watch the rest of it, I am back on the re-runs of DS9 on Netflix, good stuff.
Snap.

I've skipped most of S1&S2, picked a few decent ones from S3 and started cracking with S4 once the Dominion really started to be the main storyline.
I somehow managed to get mrs Iroc interested in DS:9 she caught snippets while I was starting a re-watch and eventually she thought she'd give it a try thumbup
DS9 is also being shown on Freeview channel 34 "Pick" daily at 6pm, obviously there isn't the luxury of choosing episodes and watching at any time that Netflix offers.
Netflix has The orignal series of Star Trek, The Next Generation, Deep Space 9, Voyager, Enterprise and of course Discovery.

There is also a documentary on Netflix about the late great Leonard Nimoy (Spock), called "For The Love of Spock" (2016).

I completely agree with this. She is the lead character in an ensemble Star Trek show. As with TOS and TNG she is ‘too good to be true’, but that’s because these characters are supposed to be the best of the best the galaxy has to offer.

Unlike Kirk and Picard they started by showing her arrogance as a major setback early in her career.
In the films they added the idea that Kirk cheated his way through his final test at the academy. And late in TNG we discover that when Picard was at the academy he got into a bar fight which meant he had to have an artificial heart. But in each case they happily progressed to captain the Starfleet flagship without a hiccup.
Burnam was clearly being groomed as ‘future captain’ when we first met her, with the same absolute certainty in her own ability as Kirk. Unfortunately she wasn’t blessed with his luck, so ended up in a prison cell for mutiny.

Me neither. This is the best Trek series since TNG.

If I had a complaint it would be over the ropey graphics of the ship crashing and especially of it trying to break free of the ice.

I immediately thought it was Tim Roth also.
Then I recalled he was in Medium opposite Patricia Arquette

Completely agree with both of you. Its a solid show and each of these opening episodes have been solid.

The banter between the two engineers was genuinely funny and despite not liking her character when they first found her I'm really happy they added her to the crew as a permanent fixture. Tilly as always is just great.

Saru and Phillipa taking out the merc's in the bar was fantastic and almost felt like it was a 'if things go bad plan-B' all along in the way they executed it and wordlessly worked together. Saru is rapidly turning into my favourite character now they have taken away his fear. Even Phillipa has a level of respect for him now it seems

Saru feels more alien than any other main character on Star Trek. The actors height and build helps, but the way he stands and walks make him stand out.

Klingons, Bajorans, Andorians and the like, all seem much more human due to their build and the human way in which they move. I think they've done a great job with Saru.

That, I would definitely agree with. Saru is the one member of the regular cast I actually warm to. Noticing on this episode how he walks is quite different to most aliens they've ever had.

And all thats really different is how his arms “swing” when he’s moving.

The actor has made his career playing characters with distinctly ‘alien’ movements. It was interesting when we saw other actors playing kelpiens, they couldn’t make the movements seem natural the way Doug Jones does.

Funnily enough Reno is one of my favourite characters, she's just so dry (unusual to see an "older" woman not being a mother or somesuch).

Other than that Pike was head and shoulders above the rest of the cast in S2 - even better than Georgiou (who is also great)
