Another good episode and a very "Trek" dénouement.
Saru was very Picard in that conflict. I like the way the plot moved forward this episode. We have an idea what the direction of the season will be.
And who on earth is doing the incidental music? It's beyond dire. It seems that they have literally scored to the edited video to underline each emptional cue in the dialogue. What happened about the concept of broad
Oh, and good to Wesley Crusher join the crew...
Quite enjoyed this one, the situation and the solution Saru brokered. Once again spoiled a bit at the end by the inserted emotional inner searching tosh. Thank heavens they shot all that into the 32nd century and left Pike, Kirk and co to just get on with the plots without weeping every few minutes.
I discovered Discovery on Netflix earlier this week.
Watched the first eleven episodes of series 1 so far so should finish the first series this weekend.
I have only read the first few pages of this thread as I don’t want to read any spoilers, but judging by the length of this thread I guess it has the PH seal of approval.
Some interesting plot lines and enjoying the references (some more obvious than others) to older Star Trek series.

Err... that’s not entirely accurate. Watched the first eleven episodes of series 1 so far so should finish the first series this weekend.

Season 3 episode 3

Disagree.ste.
There is an old saying " opinions are like arse holes - everyone has one"
Mine is no more or less valid than yours.
I thought the acting by Suru ( previous posters mentioned the body movement ) - was really good - Never noticed that before.
Of course it was a bit obvious on the "Happily have a natter"
But if you are going to start somewhere..... it is where you start.
And Michael was much less annoying.... go figure.
I'm enjoying it.

"They" (see, I can do woke) were described as being a symbiont. Maybe contributing that word, with a new gender-focused meaning, to wider discourse might be Discovery's legacy...
As discussed earlier, this is the same species of symbiont seen in TNG and DS9. In both cases the character had been in male and female host bodies. Edited by SpudLink on Sunday 1st November 09:17
They've never made a big deal out of "3rd gender" or "gender neutral" characters before. They're doing so this time because they've specifically chosen someone identifying themselves as "non binary" to play a gender fluid character. The 2 aren't really comparable, given one is an alien made up of 2 beings, but hey...

Quite symbolic of the male/female struggle that gender fluid people go through presumably. In a way it must be like having two people or two sides of your personality occupying one body.Flip Martian said:

Did that sound clever inside your head?First Trek has done stories about alternate genders. Second, good SciFi often addresses issues of today.
I mean obviously they should get an alien symbiant pair to play an alien symbiant pair, durrr.
