The film was poor. The Cinema was packed. We couldn’t get in yesterday at all either. Hype has worked. Wonky cgi and character getting his power from ‘erb’?

Heavy handed. Sub lord of the rings ending as well. Worst mcu movie I’ve seen.

Saw it tonight and definitely thought it was the worst Marvel film to date. I even started to nod off halfway through.

Acting was good and the soundtrack. CGI was crap as was the story. Better yet star wars and not close to Jumanji

Because some precious soul may not have seen Civil War, Thor Ragnarok or Doctor Strange yet:

There was some talk on Reddit, purely a fan theory at the moment of course, that the last infinity stone is in Wakanda and this is what causes the herbs to grow and have power but the colours are all wrong. The Soul stone is orange but then the colours have sometimes changed. Loki's sceptre definitely had a blue touch to it and everyone assumed it was powered by the Tesseract but it actually held the Mind stone which is orangey yellow and currently sits in Vision's bonce.

Then there's the theory that the missing Soul Stone is in the possession of Heimdall which is why he can see all the souls in the universe.

Being that some of Infinity War is set in Wakanda it would lead some credence to there being an Infinity Stone there. I suspect that the forst film will end when Thanos completes the gauntlet and has all 5 stones and The Avengers get their collective asses kicked from here to Eternity. (Here to Infinity?) and are broken. There may even be a death. (purely because some contracts are up after Infinity War, but with the time stone in the hands or Dr Strange they could go back. There are clues in the trailer that they go back to the Attack on New York by Loki and the Chitauri with Dr Strange.

I'm a Marvel nut from my youth, have seen most MCU films but not all. I've seen the trailer and it just looks like a mind numbing CGI fest a la Transformers or even worse. Made up my mind not to bother a while ago but there does seem to be a lot of people in the media who think it's actuall rather good. I'm confused as to what's going on.

Like most films nowadays the critics don't want to upset the studios or run the risk of being called misogynist or racist by the media.

I sense much the same phenomenon as with Wonder Woman. Lots of virtue signalling by critics and audience members. This film was some time in the making. There’s no excuse for the cgi to be jarring when in earlier films from the same studio it’s been seamless.

Look at what went on with a The Orville and Star Trek Discovery.

Critics love Discovery but hate The Orville
Fans love The Orville but dislike Discovery

Have no intention of seeing it after looking at their marketing strategy, and looks like I made the right choice. Most people I know said it was by the numbers or disappointing, nothing special.
If a movie is going to be good it will be on it's own merits, it shouldn't have to dip it's toe into the internet outrage machine.
Shame on the critics though.

It’s not as good as the hype and critics suggest. It’s well worth seeing as a Marvel fan.
Make your own mind up.

Red Letter Media do great vids, and reviews, as well as data vids like the above.
As does, Georg Rockall-Schmidt, who doesn't review films, but analyses why they make it, why they don't, it's a great 10 min vid.

and if you can manage 1 hour, and the weird caricature, then the RLM Plinklett review goes into the ham-fisted editing, directing, and incongruous style of the 2016 film.

Cheers I didn't know about the guy in your first link. RLM are obsessive, but talented at doing what they do

Again, thanks...he's damn good at what he does. A straighter version of RLM so to speak.

Myself and several other people i know all enjoyed Black Panther, just a piece of nonsense escapism, fulfilled the brief for me, but then i don't get my knickers in a twist over a marvel film.

RLM have their review up now. So it's pretty decent, but not the second coming that most critics are praising it as.

I saw it today. It's pretty good for a comic film - entertaining, scores high on the visuals but light on characters and a bit predictable (final battle). 7/10.

I've just returned from New York, it's a genuine cultural event like Halloween. Church groups, schools etc are buying up entire screenings, and Disney have really missed a marketing trick not getting toys/costumes out there like they normally might for a Marvel movie, dressing up to go see it was a huge thing this weekend.

This film will run and run off the back of multiple visits, and it has a clear run at thousands of screens for weeks.

If nothing else I'm glad this and Wonder Woman have firmly expelled the long held believe in Hollywood exec circles that movies not primarily made for/starring white guys are the only way to make money. Funnily enough, the more than 50% of the planet that aren't white guys like movies too.
