If nothing else I'm glad this and Wonder Woman have firmly expelled the long held believe in Hollywood exec circles that movies not primarily made for/starring white guys are the only way to make money. Funnily enough, the more than 50% of the planet that aren't white guys like movies too.
Yea because up until last year there has never been a successful movie with a strong female or black lead.

I saw it yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. But I did go in expecting the worst after reading reviews on here.

Any study you care to look for on the balance of gender/race in terms of both actors and key crew shows that things are still massively skewed towards white guys. 'Enough' would be when we're no longer talking about it.

The US performance is one thing, but the film has been huge in the likes of South Korea and other markets that 'hollywood' has always assumed required big white male stars to sell $200m movies.

Well gee, maybe that's because the demographics of the USA are massively skewed towards white men and women...
And you know, the Chinese movie industry is massively skewed towards Asian actors, Bollywood is massively skewed towards Indian actors, etc...

If they didn't want to accommodate us... they shouldn't have forcibly imported us.

Yeah, there's nothing there for white guys in having a smokin' hot chick running around pouting in skimpy clothing for 2.5 hours.

Back to your sheds lads.

Why all the fuss?
There has been a plethora of black superheroes over the last 25 years or so, why get emotional about this one?

Quite. This is a pretty average film with black people in it. It's not as bad as Wonder Woman, or that Ghostbusters rehash we all had to like because it had women in it, but it will be forgotten in a week.

It's so unlike Hollywood to cynically exploit a demographic purely for ticket sales. How strange.

Do they justify why?

At best its the worse comic to big screen film, I enjoyed Suicide Squad more. Even Dont be a Menace to South Central had less black stereotypes. And the Paw Patrol: Sea Patrol film I took my 4 year olds to see had better writing.

rofl Just go's to show the problems with this kind of site.

The movie was ok, probably a bit sub-par. If I'd specifically paid to watch it I'd be disappointed (I've moved on to an unlimited card as we go every week).

It's nowhere near the best of all time. It's somewhere north of Inspector Gadget from the 90s.

You won't find any of the big Internet/ Youtube reviewers saying it's anything less than a masterpiece. Goes to show the power of peer pressure .. if they give it anything less than a glowing review they know they'll get a beating from a twitter mob.

The Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB audience ratings put it at between 75-80%, which is about right. It's a decent enough Marvel superhero flick but overly long and lacking in action. All this hype from the PC brigade is just going to result in disappointed audiences who will be expecting something more than what the movie actually is.

Still, the mostly white male execs of Marvel studios will be laughing all the way to the bank.

We've already seen the lynch mob go for the critics who dared to criticise this movie, branding them as racists, not getting the point etc...

I've taken to just waiting a week and looking at user reviews now, they tend to be a better reflection of how good the movie (or game) will be. In recent times there has been such a disconnect between critics, and actual movie goers (i.e. The Last Jedi for example). Too many critics, and youtube stars are dependent on sucking the corporate teat or they are cut off from their income stream, it's the same in the gaming world. Thankfully normal people don't care so much, but I think this politicising of movies and games is one strategy to start changing that...
