I don't really care how much they earn - but it reminds me that Radio 2 needs a MASSIVE cull. Loads of stale old stalwarts (Ken Bruce, Steve Wright) and other irritants (Vine, Feltz) that have too comfy seats and all need to go! Even Evans is dull too. Same jingles same time every day, usually some voiceover of his kid etc.
This is it. Much of the big money is going to Radio 2 presenters and it's duller than ditch water. Trouble with R2 is you're there until you die. Something has to give.

From the reactions of many on here saying how they see the pay these presenters receive is fair. Then I most be old fashioned and still believe in a honest days work for a honest days pay.

I need to perhaps change my thinking. I remember a job I did a few weeks ago for a school. It involved me driving five minutes to Argos buying a £20 wireless door bell. Then driving five more minutes to the school. Spending 5 minutes fitting it and then my company charged them around £300 for the pleasure. £2000 for 3 extra smoke detectors also springs to mind the kit cost around £100 and took 2 hours to fit.

I just instantly feel guilty, I know my company has bills to pay but I just know when something isn't fair. And the only place that extra money is going is on the company owners new car.

I know it's the reason I will never be rich but at least I have clean conscience. Its quite apparent to me many people don't know what such a thing is anymore.

Ken Bruce is a professional, my radio gets turned on at 9.30 if I'm at work, first on the cull should be Evans followed by Zoe Ball.
It has recently got worse on a Saturday..the screeching talentless fkwits Alan Carr and Melanie Sykes are on in the morning now, then the afternoon gives us the moronic giggling Zoe...Radio 2 is firmly off in our house now on a Saturday, it's given me the chance to discover some really good Internet only based radiothumbup

Why does the BBC need to compete with commercial TV, and pay these exhorbitant salaries out of license fees?
I would rather it just had a 24 hours news reel, a few decent factual documentaries and left the chav TV and big budget to ITV et al
I really resent paying my TV license to these greedy b'stards and reckon a fairer system would be to pay for what you watch, in some kind of graded access
Since the days of Mark Thompson the senior employees have had their noses deep into the snout bag, caning their expense accounts as well

Take the One Show, the blandest/dumbest programme on the BBC, how the hell does that Alex Jones command such a huge salary, her banal 'interviews' defy reason

BTW, love the way the slippery eel Chris Evans supposedly asked and then quoted what his mother thought of his fat salary, using her response to avoid giving his own view

And breathe...

The newspaper media are trying to make these 'stars' feel ashamed or embarrassed by their wealth.

If your agent phones you up and tells you the BBC are offering you a new contract and want to pay you hundreds of thousands of pounds to talk on TV and/or Radio nobody is going to say

'no thanks' i want to earn the average wage of £25k so I can be normal and everyone will like me'

Still can't believe Alex Jones getting that much for talking rubbish on the One Show, her agent must be a bloody good negotiator.

Worth noting if Evans was still doing Top Gear and The One Show his wage bill for the year would close to £4M.

Add to the cull that massively irritating Lynn Bowles who car crashes every day and self opinionated Matt Williams, I might start listening again....

His Top Gear salary wouldn't have been included in this report, just as Matt Le Blanc's hasn't been, because it's some dodgy fiddle that makes the licence fee look well spent not paid by the licence fee.

Are you talking about R2, the biggest and most successful radio station in the country, by an absolute country mile?

"I think it's dull, so it's a waste of money..."

90% of the posts continue to be "I don't like Alex Jones/ Evans/ Zoe Ball/ Charlie from Casualty et al and therefore they shouldn't get paid as much (if at all)."

This thread is the lowest point in critical thinking since the Paranormal thread in the Lounge.

It's absolutely piss-poor. I'm amazed so many people seem to trundle through life in a ball of angry, uncomprehending confusion.

It's like the thought - I hate Chris Evans - is the main thing, so everything else has to be retrospectively fitted around that. If you point out an error in their logic then you are ignored because it doesn't compute.

Imagine if the BBC paid more money to ghosts. hehe

The point is that if you were a B lister celebrity offered these ridiculously high salaries you would take it, most of us mere mortals would as well
...however, to me the issue is, why is the BBC paying these in the first place...OUT OF OUR LICENSE FEE ("TV tax")

They pay that much because its the going rate I guess...

Same as I don't understand why plumbers are worth £80k a year, or some IT people get £250,000 a year...or bankers who get £5m bonuses...
You pay the money required to get the people you think will do the best job for your business.

Where do you think BBC salaries should be paid from, if not the licence fee?

Are you hard of understanding?

I'm merely questioning why Radio 2 gets so much money compared with everything else the BBC does. For those that don't know the UK particularly well there's fairly large swathes were R1 and R2 are pretty much the only stations that have a decent signal, so Evans's success is down to being not as st as Grimmy.

Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good.

Just because someone does work that is good, that doesn't mean they should earn as much or more than someone else who does work that is more popular.

The BBC should be trimmed down, as should the license fee (or at least menu priced depending on what you want to watch) I don't get why IT NEEDS TO COMPETE with ITV, Netflix, Amazon Prime etc - IT IS A PUBLIC INSTITUTION LARGELY FUNDED BY US !!

Ask most kids/Millennials what they watch these days and its not terrestial TV - this trend will only continue
