Look up an older (but still current) RPG pen and paper game called Shadowrun.

This seems to be a spiritual successor to that game world.

Looks an interesting premise.

it was a mess - but I did enjoy it. The is a definite degree of world building there which I would like to see in more detail (so in answer to another post yes this does feel like pt 1 in a series)

Watched it with the wife and she isn't much into sci fi but both quite enjoyed it.

However it felt rushed and not enough info on the background. The hints of 2000 years ago and the cross shape on the tree makes me think something like a parallel world where jesus was actually bad and magic stopped him.

But it didn't go into it. However it is getting a equal with will smith confirmed.

would've worked best as a series like the Marvel stuff I think... I enjoyed it overall... the "world" has some potential ...

I thought it was fantastic! I could definitely see the hints if Training Day in there, and I think it could be a good series, but certainly not pointless.
One I could happily watch again.
