This year they have actually picked the best bakers from the auditions rather than the BBC method of ticking the various ethical boxes first and baking ability second. Easily the best standard I've seen in the first show.

I thought it was Ok - liked the 'illusion' cake round.
Will tune in again for the next episode smile

Yes Noel. Off you go.
He's a bit superfluous isn't he? Other than that, as entertaining as ever. Have to delay the start though so I can skip the irritating adverts.
He's pretty much done nothing interesting since The Boosh.

I find Sue Perkins quite irritating to watch, so I was very happy to see a new presenting line up.

Haven't watched GBBO in a while, this week, I enjoyed it.

Decent enough - bound to take a couple of episodes to really gel but looking promising.

Yes, the benchmark is much higher. Their show stoppers were like the final ones from the BBC series and (in theory) it will only go up from here.

He doesn't seem to add value and will the viewers even know who he is? They could replace him and no one would notice.

+1
I guess I'm pretty standard PH fodder, so not surprising. Just been watching the 'whitewash' crap involving Skrien(??) the actor refusing to play some cartoon character rolleyes
Anyway, I particularly liked Noel Fielding - weird yet wonderful casting. Not sure about his sidekick, whoever she is(?). Prue Leith at least as good as 'everybody's favourite grandma'. Mel & Sue: I never liked Mel for some reason, so don't really miss them.

+1.
Neither did they go "Apprentice" and choose aholes that they think will be entertaining. Just seemingly decent candidates for once.

I thought the presenters were OK. They have clearly reined in Prue Leith's snobbishness a bit and she was OK. Although Mary was great, I think she will be a distant memory for most, after a few more episodes. I expect she would have retired soon anyway, she must be absolutely minted by now, time to go and enjoy it?

Keeping Hollywood and the same artist for the drawings gave it just the right amount of familiarity.

Sandwich cake was amazing.

I quite enjoyed it too and will be watching for the rest of the series.

That sandwich cake was amazing. On the other hand, the guy that got the boot, well his cake was terrible. If that's all he could come up with from two hours baking he deserved to go.

Seconded, that sandwich cake was top class. Bloke who went deserved to go.

Only criticism is one relatively easily solved, basically record it and ffwd through those bloody adverts, even then irritating as hell.

So, we, family, were regarded as being either weird or cool, for watching GBBO complete with snacks vaguely appropriate to the week's theme. This week cakes, next week biccies. Anyone else? Is it weird or cool? I reckon there are quite a few who do this.

You called them biccies, therefore immediatly uncool!

Change...that's who you dislike most.

I thought it was good - happy to give Fielding time to settle in, the voice overs weren't great, but that's a fairly minor thing.

I never thought the idea should be to pick the best bakers from the start. I thought the idea should always be to pick a group of differing people in order to make a watchable series. The show stoppers were very good - but as I say, I didn't think that was the point of the programme. I want to watch a few things fall apart or melt and get throw in the bin. And with regards the contestants, they were a bit low on middle aged women; the BBC was actually a bit more "conventional" in that sense.

I quite liked it though. I more or less felt I was watching the same thing I watched on the BBC. I've always liked Noel Fielding though. I think his low key delivery is nice.

I only caught bits of it, but I thought it was pretty good!

Need a bit more from Noel, everyone knows he is weird, so act weird!

Adverts were a bit annoying, but we've got them all on series record now, so just watch it a few minutes late and skip through.

Was so desperate for some cake last night though!!!

I'm not a big fan of biscuits but I'd happily make myself ill trying to eat all of those!

Fielding aside, I really have no preference between the C4 and BBC versions.
