That ex army stuntwoman is a dark horse, not a bad looker either...
I agree. Capable and a bit of a looker.I'm really struggling to establish what Noel Fielding is contributing. I'm sure we wouldn't notice if he wasn't there at all. Overall the show isn't a disaster. My wife feels it's lost a bit of charm but to me it's like a cover version of a favourite song. It's familiar yet different and that causes a bit of discomfort.
Noel still not come to terms with the fact that he's sold out. With a bit of luck his bank balance will make him feel a bit better and he'll rediscover his wit before the series ends.
Sandi... more of a Saga pinup than a TV presenter.
Pru Leith, styled to beyond ridiculous with technicolour outfits that do her no favours.
And then there's the adverts.

I agree with your wife, losing Mel and Sue seems to have lost the warmth and charm that came with their daft innuendo and general mucking about. On paper, Sandi and Noel looked to have been to have been more than capable of replicating this to some degree but it's just not happening.
Suspect the producers asked Noel to calm down the surrealness and he's just gone a bit too far with it and diluted himself down to nothing more than a bloke in a quirky shirt.
Oh, and the adverts don't actually bother me, gives me a few minutes to muck about on my phone or go for a wazz
One part of old GBBO that isn't in this is the short history lesson film about whatever they were making that week, when Mel/Sue would talk to an expert and have a go at making pretzels or whatever. Sometimes it was a toilet break, sometimes there were a few interesting little bits in it. Maybe it was meant to be the bit they would cut to keep it at an hour if it was ever shown in America, on Dave or one of the other UKTV channels.

AgreedI don't miss Sue Perkins, but Mel was OK. Noel F an interesting choice & seems OK.
A strangely absorbing show.

Noel seemed like a bizarre choice to me and still does. I'm sure he can be serious, but it seems to be the antithesis of his cultivated image. On paper, Sandi and Noel looked to have been to have been more than capable of replicating this to some degree but it's just not happening.

It ends up being like they casted him purely to try and snag the whole millenial/Gen-X audience then how they've asked him to behave makes it seem very contrived.
It may be that they haven't done any historical inserts purely because there are so many contestants at the moment. It already feels like there isn't enough time to show much of anyone. Hopefully as time goes on the filmed inserts will return.
On the subject of the high skill level, they do look amazing, and I love to see them, but in previous series you get used to it pretty quickly and they tend to just come over as a super-professional expert. Part of the charm of GBBO comes from the more "real" bakers who you see progressing and improving as time goes on. People you can perhaps identify with. People who do make mistakes and don't know everything, that way I can learn from them too.

It appears that Noel (and also possibly Paul by the sounds of it) has managed to upset a subsection of the gay community earlier today for posting a "sexually suggestive" and "offensive" picture on Twitter.

They've not though, just a few of your hard line PC brigade getting upset on behalf of people who really don't need people getting upset on their behalf! http://www.ok.co.uk/celebrity-news/1170974/the-gre...

Yeah, sorry, that was my point. I forgot to add the emoticon It just seems that since the big move to C4 people are trying to get a bit of their own press out of it. Similarly, there was another pointless non story today. The Sun published old photos of a 2003 (so very much pre Bake-off) celebrity fancy dress party which Paul Hollywood attended dressed in a Nazi uniform because the theme was "Allo Allo". Apparently this confirms PH is a racist and a Nazi sympathiser
