Doesn't appear to have the strength to pull a bow back, or is it a children's bow & arrow.

Seriously though the Jolie films were garbage, I expect no improvement here.

/PH answer:

Alicia Vikander doesn't have the chest to be a true Lara. But she was great in Ex Machina

Just watched the trailer, appears to be a copy of the rebooted game. AV has been good in previous films, although i suspect the story will need padding out, much like her chest!

I can't tell if they're trying to be ironic with that cheesy 80s, B movie looking teaser or if it's played straight.

As a film version of the 2013 "origin story" game it looks "ok" at best so it's only something I'd D/L rather than go to the cinema to watch TBH.

However it'll probably be a flop because most people remember Lara as Angelina Jolie, who resembled the original mature game character rather than Alicia Vikander who, to get a low brow for a second, is the correct chest size for the character this movie is based on (the 2013 "origin story" game pic below) so she'll get a lot of comments about "boobs not big enough" etc.

TBH even in the 2013 game and this latest film which looks to have taken inspiration from that game, Lara is supposed to be in her early 20's i.e. old enough to have developed to ahem "full maturity" so I'm not sure why she'd be so small in either case.

I can only think the decision to tone down on the big boobs was an attempt to get away from the previously slightly pervy overtones of the Lara Croft character, possibly in an effort to add a bit more appeal for female audiences rather than the traditional mostly male audience that previous iterations of Lara where aimed at.

The problem with this however is that in the trailers, she looks physically weak to the point where she looks incapable of performing the acrobatic and fighting feats that we know and expect from LC. It looks like a strong gust of wind could blow her away so I'm having a tough time in believing she can pull of some of the stuff we see in the trailer.

So in my opinion boobs and muscles not big enough wink

No interest watching it, at least in the cinema. And her boobs are hardly huge! hehe
First film sucked, Resident Evil too. Silent Hill was awful also.

Literally only just managed to complete complete Tomb Raider (on PS3, of all things) , much more of an experience that some film.
Yeah the recent games are excellent.. who needs a film!

The new film is supposed to be based on the 2013 game. That Lara is a cycle courier, doesn’t seem great training to then be fighting and shooting people in jungles.

I think the thing that worked in the original films is that you completely bought into the fact that Angelina Jolie could do the things you saw on screen. In fact when you watch stuff like the Crafting Lara Croft video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PbTUP-6CAQ it just shows how much she nailed the role. The director went to see her training to see how much they would need to use stunt doubles and realised that she could do almost everything they wanted the character to do.

Instead of being shown how to pretend fight, she was trained in hand to hand combat. She was trained to use real gun with live ammunition not props, she did the bungee ballet scene herself as the stunt woman kept getting motion sickness. Yep bit of a fan.

Now on Netflix

The movie doesn't have the most exciting plot but I thought Alicia Vikander made a decent Lara Croft.

Yeah, I thought she was ok, and the film itself fun enough.

Mind you, in these days of diversity and inclusion, its a shame they had Lara Croft played by a white woman. Would have been far braver by the production company to have the character played by a black man - for example, I think Idris Elba would be great in the role.

It wouldn't be Lara Croft then

because Lara Croft is not a black man and thus can't be played by one.

In the same way if you were making a film about Nelson Mandela you would not hire a white woman to play the part.

Soooo similar to Heimdall, Ghost Busters (reboot) and on and on.

Given today's climate IE could play LC if she identified as a woman surely?
