I'm not getting the laptop or iPad out anymore, and I find myself doing more emails on my iPhone in the evening and consuming more YouTube content - so I'm thinking that perhaps an iPhone Plus maybe a good option. But I'm keen to understand how people get on with the size of it? Like everything, I'm sure I will get used to it, but it does seem to take up considerable space in my pocket..

In addition, should I go for the 6s, 7 or 8? What are the main benefits, it seems to me that the 6s still has a 3.5mm jack, which is positive, the 8 has wireless charging and better camera. What about the 7..? Where would your money be?

Thanks all

At this very moment in time I'd wait and get an iPhone X, larger screen than the Plus but a smaller body.

Either way the Plus is a great size for a bit more involved use, but unless you have big manly hands one handed use is pretty limited.

I've got an iPhone 6+. I've had it for nearly two years now and I have regretted getting it almost right from the start, it's too big for any pocket. Great phone apart from that though.

The costs carriers are putting on the X is outrageous, but then I've not had a contract that includes a phone for probably 8 years. SIM free phone and less than £20 a month is much more swallowable for me, even if £1149 is too much for me to upgrade from my 7+.

If not an X then an 8+, I honestly see no point not buying the latest one. And I feel the X would solve my main gripe with the Plus that it's slightly too big realistically, but not so much that I'd downgrade.

I have a 6+ and i am used to the size now it seems normal, a non plus iphone seems too small for me. But i can't say an iphone is worth the outlay myself given prices they are selling for, i'll get an android phone outright for a third the price when i've had enough and it will do me for what i need

Depends how much data you want. Vodafone are doing the 64GB X with 60GB for £80/month and £50 one off. If you want a lot of data you're going to be paying £30-40/month for that SIM only. Free Spotify premium too which is worth a few quid a month. That seems like a good deal to me.

I"m on a £20/month 20GB SIM only deal with a 6+ (3 years old) but would consider doing the above, if I don't get an 8+ first. The problem is the 8+ is hardly less than the X deal above so I'd probably just go and buy one from the Apple shop.

I’ve had a 6+ since launch, 3 years ago and just replaced it yesterday with an 8+.

Not too sure what hipster jeans the other poster is wearing but I’ve never had trouble fitting the phone in any pocket (shorts, jacket or trousers).

The processing speed and camera of the 8 are night and day compared to the 6 and probably the 6s but general consensus is that it’s not too advanced from the 7.

Wireless charging can be solved with a case that has the ability inbuilt so no need to differentiate there.

It just comes down to future proofing and how much you’re willing to pay but unless you’re itching for the newest model then it sounds like the 7+ would be a good place to look.

I have a standard 6 as a work phone and the additional real estate with larger keyboard is noticeable on the + version - enough that I wouldn’t go back.

The X has a large screen in a smaller case than the + but it isn’t conventional with the notch and ears so the usable portion isn’t that much different to the +

Happy shopping.

I would buy a pre-owned 7-plus for now (for say £400/£500) and then wait to see what develops with the X / XI over the next year or so. The 7-plus will be more than adequate for all your needs. Get a £20/month contract and you're good to go! smile

I've got a 7 Plus. Went from a 6 for the reasons you state (and the better camera).

When my contract is up next year I will go back to a standard sized phone.

For browsing I don't actually find the screen big enough to be of much benefit over a normal sized phone. In fact, I bought an iPad recently for browsing at home so there is no benefit to the 7 Plus for me now. And it's extra size is a pain.

Regarding the headphone socket, it really isn't an issue not to have it. The adapter works fine if you have earphones you like and I've never needed to charge and listen to music at the same time for it to be an issue.

Love my 7+, wouldn't go back to a smaller screen now. No trouble it fitting in a pair of jeans pocket and it's not too big for my paws.

I have a 6s+ as my personnel phone and a 7s+ As my work phone most days I’ll have both of them in my pocket (although I take them out when sitting down.) this is the first year I’ve not upgraded so have gone sim only as I don’t feel there’s significant improvement to justify the cost.

I have just gone from the 6 to the 8+. And no regrets ,much prefer looking at Emails and video. Also if it’s in my jeans pocket fine!

I've had a 7+ for just over a year, cracking bit of kit.

Anyone who says it doesn't fit in your pockets is having you on - I wear slim fit trousers for work I've never had an issue.

One thing I would say is get a decent whack of data, my viewing habits increased a bit thanks to the big screen and I ended up needing to up my data allowance.

Also, get insurance that covers the screen or get a case. Screen repair is extortionate.

But hang on a sec, that’s one device you’re going to have that will replace your ‘phone, your lapdog and your iPad according to your original post....

Anyway, i’ve been using a 6s+ for two years. It has never been “too big” for anything. Least of which is it fits neatly in a suit pocket, for example. And it’s so slim - even with a case protecting the back and sides.

I use it a lot, so battery life is becoming a medium-sized issue as it ages, but I carry a battery pack to plug into if I think I’m going to need it.

Wired headphones are a key factor for me, so having headphone jack and lightning is ideal (but I’m sure I could work round it).

Screen size and quality is ideal for watching stuff on a commute, and, apart from poorly designed sites, helps browsing to be pleasurable.

And it seems to run iOS11 quite well enough.

I’ve got a 7+.

I upgraded from a 6S (which my wife has), mainly because of screen size due to eyesight & manual dexterity issues.

It’s great on the hoof (the camera is brilliant) but I still prefer my iPad when at home.

I’m not hung up on Apple products. I just find them easier to use & with less user configurable settings, harder to break!

£20/wk, for something that you will use incessantly, will be waterproof, your sat nav, your PDA, email machine, game machine etc and may barely be out of your hand during downtime? Peanuts. smile

I have a 6s Plus and absolutely love it. No way would I go back to the smaller iPhone; I use it for so many things that I don’t use my MacBook all that much. It’s fantastic! I may well swap it for the X, but not yet 100% decided.

You must have unusually small pockets. Mine fits jean pockets and suit trouser pockets fine.

Never find the size of a plus an issue. I have a regular and a plus and I actively seek to use the plus where possible.
