My grandfather was a mark V tank driver, he joined up late in the war and luckily for him it was over as he finished his training. He died when I was only a year old so I never got a chance to talk to him sadly.

Noticed one of the names on the memorial was Bamford. Wonder if JCB have a more poignant interest.

Those 'rivets' look far too perfect! I am enjoying it though, the cold hard facts of WW1 never cease to amaze and sadden.

More of a cardboard cutout of a tank than a replica.

1200hp in a modern tank, that's got to be about 2000 lb/ft of torque yikes

When I was at school in the I suppose you would call it the mechanics club they had a Rolls Royce engine from a Scorpion that I spent a summer of lunch breaks and more stripping cleaning reassembling and painting it's what got me into car mechanics

I was just thinking that the yanking on of the handbrakes was going to put a lot of stress on the mechanicals when 'Bang'!

According to my dad my grandfather did say they had a habit of braking down! His was a male tank in about 1922 him and the rest of the crew won the army gunnery championship with the six pounder hotchkiss, basically a sawn off naval gun!

I enjoyed that

Seemed a bit of a shame that it ended in a bit of an anti-climax with only a handful of people there.

Shame on Lincoln.

A good programme. So what’s the difference between the drivetrain setup they used and what was used in the original?

Great viewing, strong cardboard ( rolleyes )
Shame Lincoln couldn’t accommodate, but a fitting setting. Deserved a larger moment frankly.

Well done.
