Just because it's absolutely everywhere.
Its st, I hate it because its fking everywhere, you can't watch a film without hearing it. Do people think they are clever putting it in every film?
+1000000 I fking hate that effect, and hate even more any filmmaker who thinks they are amusing or "in" or whatever it is that compels these wkers to keep on adding it into modern films. It's not funny, it's not clever , it *is* however a very good way to instantly ruin any action scene.
its just a tradition, relax a bit.
Some traditions should just die.

Very specific this, but the noise of Robocop walking into the Detroit PD for the first time. The sound his footsteps make is just quality

I don't even have to look that noise up because I can hear it so clearly in my head.

With a decent sound system the drones in Oblivion are great.

Why do they have to have volume so loud? Even with 100 people in a cinema absorbing noise, it's still painful.

When they get engine noises correct in any film. It’s always odd when they play V8 noises over anything without a V8 or when someone is riding a Ducati that sounds like an in-line 4.
Or the trail bikes in Black Rain which also sounds like an IL4 but must be a 2t or 4t single.

If Fry and QI are to be believed, the sound is that of a sheet of A4 paper being slid out of an A4 envelope.

To me, the Harley ticking over in T2 sounds the business. You know, when it squashes the toy truck.

I always remember the sounds from the Bond vs Oddjob fight in the vault of Fort Knox in Goldfinger. The 'dirty bomb' going ning, ning, ning, ning and the ringing of the iron bars. I've been known to clang an oven shelf or clout railings to recreate the sound.

The big shoot out scene in Heat, which isn't sound effects but the real sounds of the guns firing (blanks obviously) as they were recorded during filming.

They intended to dub it over with gunshot sound effects but the real thing sounded so good they left it as is.

Heat was such a good film; never seems to attract much acclaim, though.
