Noticed on Discovery that there is a new Uk version of a car show starting on 8/1/. Some English car customizer..... perhaps its time for a new show, a new presenter...
Is that the thing being advertised on one of the Freeview channels with "Yianni" or something like that, loads of "well cool bruv" comments in the trailer? Sounds awful, but might be worth a look except if it started on 8/1 I've missed the first one.
I watched a couple of these last night, basically just wrapping stuff. Reasonably interesting except not enough detail, but a half-hour programme cuts down to well under 15 minutes once the filler and adverts are gone. Sorry for derailing the thread, but I'm not sure it warrants a separate one.

I caught the last 15 mins of this last night. Seems to concentrate on this culture of people with lots of money and no taste buying the blingiest cars they can find and asking this Yanni bloke to make them even more blingy. It was like an Ali G parody. Yo bruv, wicked man. Ah stop it.

Who the hell was that guy with the van? Fat middle class English white guy who had a bump on the head and suddenly thought he was American and from the Projects. Rant over

Back to the show... I enjoyed the Supra although I still feel like the show has lost that basic home made TV style that made it interesting and it's looking a bit more polished and invested in, losing some of the character of the old seines along the way. Not bad and I'll still tune in but I think I preferred it when it was set in a shed back in Blighty.

Way too much hugging going on there!
I watched the first two Yanni the wrapper programmes yesterday - they could have save 5 minutes per edition if they'd gone hugless!

The problem I have is that Ant doesn't wear any protective gloves which say to me he doesn't actually do the spannering. If you have your hands in oil and grease for hours you need those gloves.
I noticed that too.

Charlie Sloth. Radio 1 / 1 Extra DJ. The (very) poor mans Tim Westwood.

Just caught up with the first two episodes. Was prepared to hate it but, actually, I thought it was quite good. Not as good as the old ones but certainly better than the last couple of US based series with Edd. Ant seems a fine replacement to me.

Wrapping is pretty much what Yanni is known for tuning etc isn't his niche but he does do some nice work & is a decent guy.

Yes, it was billed as a customising show rather than anything else. He seems to be quite high-profile, last night showed him at a car show with a load of people taking photos, getting autographs etc.

Charlie Sloth was quite funny when he used to pop into the end of the Scott Mills show sometimes. All fun and games until, when they wheeled him out of the studio one time, they managed to catch the master switch and turn the studio power off by accident. I haven't heard much of what he does, I suspect it's not my kind of music.

I haven't read all the comments but in my opinion they went the wrong way.
Ed was the star of the show, Mike as nice as he was didn't add a lot, anybody could fill that role.
Ant is nice but he is no Ed China. Sadly I will pass, change of presenters, change of show (everything in dollars) etc and it holds zero interest for me.
I wish Ed did his own show?

Saw a few minutes of Ant doing his thing with the Supra while channel hopping - there's something a bit 'off' about his delivery as if he's reading from an autocue?!

I would think he doesn't have a lot of creative input, basically reading a script as his is the new boy.

Probably, but it's not like it's his first job in front of the camera. confused

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to say that WD has always been scripted, that being the case then Edd made a better job of not appearing to be reading lines, like when he successfully removes an irreplaceable section of glass or trim from a car being prepped for paint without damaging it and he waves it in the air and looks relieved you believe it rather than thinking it was for show as he'd loosened it earlier.

One thing from the Edd series which grated on me sometimes was the insessant moans every time Brewer turned up with a car needing some work (surely that's the point!). Also possibly scripted.

And, notice that the labour hours expended in now presented with the costs - makes sense.

Ant seems a reasonable replacement for Edd too

I thought today's one was okay but it did seem to me that the engine was smoking.

After tonight’s show I’m not so sure.

I thought I missed a chunk in 4/4. After the adverts it came back with a totally new interior, they should cut down on the crap at the beginning / end and the recaps between adverts.

Thought tonight's show was better than previous episodes... nothing new under the sun (paint detailing, exhaust manifold coatings, re-trim: it's all been done before). Ant seemed to be less patronising as well.

Why the HELL did they get rid of the Torq Thrust Ds and stick those horrible modern wheels on? I would love a set of Torq Thrusts for my car!

No. Why has everything gone American. Even his cheesy catch phrases are gone in favour of some good old americanisms.

I don't need a bloke to take 5 minutes how to use a rag either.

I don't know if I can put myself through another episode.😞

Not just me, then? "Period correct 17-inch wheels", indeed!

Discovery own the show. Made for a US audience?
