No. Why has everything gone American. Even his cheesy catch phrases are gone in favour of some good old americanisms.

I don't need a bloke to take 5 minutes how to use a rag either.

I don't know if I can put myself through another episode.??
The whole thing with the rag was cringy, Mike’s reaction of ‘wow never knew you could do that’ (fold a cloth) was embarrassing.

Was doing my head in at the start when they kept saying they had a Mark 1 - no, its a fking MACH 1! Ant finally started using the correct name when he got the car into the workshop.

The paintwork was only ever going to need a wet sand a machine polish to bring it back so not sure why they made such a big deal on it. Less time showing that & more (any?) time on the interior.

Somewhat mystified as to why they didn’t stick it back on the dyno to show how much power they’d recovered.
The Mach 1 imgo was the last real Mustang to be built until the current reincarnation. Everything in between is probably best forgotten.
Not a bad episode as there have been far worse since they went Stateside. .

What really irritates me about WD now is that it has the continuous annoying background music (no doubt to suit the American market).

How do you think Mach 1 is pronounced, bearing in mind it's named after Ernst Mach -- an Austrian? It's like Mark, but with "ch" on the end like "loch".

Thought tonight's show was better than previous episodes... nothing new under the sun (paint detailing, exhaust manifold coatings, re-trim: it's all been done before). Ant seemed to be less patronising as well.

Why the HELL did they get rid of the Torq Thrust Ds and stick those horrible modern wheels on? I would love a set of Torq Thrusts for my car!
I enjoyed the episode too, the wheels were a mistake though, it is never going to be ground-breaking tv but it passes 40 minutes well enough.

Well a 71 5.0 made 210hp and the 5.7 285. It was only the Cobra Jet that made 370 but don't forget they quoted gross outputs and a Mach 1 weighed 3220lbs(compared to a 65 GT350 which weighed 2800lbs).
In 72, compression ratios dropped and power dropped but sales actually rose in 1973 as power dropped.
It was actually Americans complaining about the size and weight that led to the Mustang II.
However, the Pinto-based Mustang II sold like hot cakes and it's form was actually influenced by the Ford Capri's success and it reverted to 1965 weight levels for the V8, even if smog and low compression ratios strangled the output to 140hp.
The 1979 Fairmont-based Fox was also extremely successful and lasted until 2005 in various forms with the 2004 terminator still being a very desirable 390hp car.

I liked that episode, nice car, Ant doing some classic old fashioned bits of tuning (i.e. relatable stuff) and seeing that thing slither round the track with a bit of tyre smoke is exactly what anyone of us would like to be doing.

Does Ant's voice sounds weird in the workshop like he's on a really cheap mic?

I suspect there's some technical glitches as a result of the conversion from US to UK TV standard. I've also noticed some points in the programs where the fliming seems to jump-and-strobe forward as if the frame update is having to catch up. No excuse for it in this day-and-age though.

Ah I see. PHers really do know everything!

Did have one gripe. The extended sort-of advert for the stupid Ford SUV he drives at the beginning. Even though the Ford badge is blanked.

So why do they have to blank such badges? It's a car show. How many won't recognise a make and model?

I think it's to avoid the "similar cars are available from other providers" and because Ford don't sponsor them so no free advertising.

I watched a couple of these last night, basically just wrapping stuff. Reasonably interesting except not enough detail, but a half-hour programme cuts down to well under 15 minutes once the filler and adverts are gone. Sorry for derailing the thread, but I'm not sure it warrants a separate one.
Wrapping is pretty much what Yanni is known for tuning etc isn't his niche but he does do some nice work & is a decent guy.
I happened to land on an episode whilst channel surfing at the weekend. Against expectation, Yianni did come over as a decent guy. Some of clients came over as world class cocksockets, however. Not sure wrapping cars, tinting windows, changing wheels and accenting brake calipers will stretch to a whole series.

Mike seems to be getting more and more TV time now. I think he was on screen for over half of last nights episode. No wonder Edd left.

The car polishing bit was over done. Not in the application, but the "enthusiasm". I'd like to have seen a bit more about the RAM scoops and also to know if they fitted a proper pancake filter to make the most of it, or just left it with the standard filter box. Though I guess the box may work better.

The wheels ruined the look for me. The red stripe wasn't too bad, went with the interior.

Over all they're not bad episodes and I think (hope) they will improve. People who haven't seen the Edd episodes wouldn't know any different. The scripted bits come across awkward because it is a new partnership, but I recall it was the same when WD first started. I may not like it as much as "original" WD, but I am glad it is still on the TV.

The wheel change made no sense to me, and some of the other styling choices that were glossed over makes me think that the whole 'buy-to-sell' process has been dispensed with and they are just working on the car for a pre-existing customer.

It was blatantly obvious this was the case in the first episode - they had a particular car they wanted to work on, someone volunteered theirs then got it back when filming was over. Second episode by pure coincidence they find a buyer who has been looking for that exact car and there's no price haggling at the end.

All three episodes broadcast this season Mike has already done the deal to get a particular vehicle - no searching, no internet auctions. Same thing for several episodes in the last series. The program title is misleading as it is just turning into another restoration show.

There might have been some pretence in the past but I can say for certain that some vehicles were genuinely sold on afterwards (I took a serious look at the Maserati they did several years ago when it was advertised for sale on the WD website months in advance of the show going out).

I recorded the latest episode and saw it last night.

I like Ant but he seems a bit stilted at the moment. Nothing as bad as Ed at the beginning, way back when, but still surprising. It is obviously scripted but doesn't seem turned to his delivery.

Overall the Mach 1 was the best so far, but not that memorable. I hope it will change a bit as the season progresses and, perhaps, Ant gets more leverage. There seems little reason for Mike at the moment. All he does is go shopping, and I'll be doing that tomorrow.

I thought there was a lot more to Ed leaving than admitted, but seeing how the show has progressed, I think I understand his feelings.

It might be that I'm getting fed up with cars that you can see regularly. There're a couple of Mustangs round my way, although no Mach 1. How about a programme where historic racing cars are salvaged, repaired and put back onto the circuit?

Ant, I thought, was a bit of a catch, but he needs to up his game I feel.

And I might add that a bit less OTT enthusiasm might improve the programme. That Supra was, at best, not bad

Hmm, what about the 2CV they were commissioned to get from France, do up and sell, without haggling, to the person who commissioned it and the BMW isetta that coincidentally was bought by their museum. I also wasn't convinced abut the hot rod they built as a tribute to his dad...why wouldn't you keep that yourself?
