I really enjoyed it. Ant is a very likeable bloke. Seeing the original designer was a nice touch and his tech pieces to camera were interesting and well presented.

Wish it was still in the UK. But no complaints at all, good effort.

I enjoyed the first episode. I think Ant will make a decent job doing the mechanicals. Can't say I am to bothered about the Dollars now as the show is primarily now aimed at the US market. I just like seeing the cars being bought and done up. I do hope Ant doesn't go down the Edd route though of wrapping cars though. I can't forget that Mazda RX7 with the snakeskin!

Perhaps I am a bit critical. I am an engineer so love detail and when they dumb it down for telly it gets on my nerves.

I don't dislike ant but just wish he would get his facts right.

I am used to it being a fix. Mike uses his contacts more than they let on. Early days and I will still watch it but, the early stuff where ed fixed things rather than just replace or send it off to someone else to do is the best. I watched the one where he fixed the audi tt gearbox with a bolt and it was more my kind of programme.

The dollars gripe could be solved if they showed both currencies.

I know that the car was designed as a rally car but they just used the Sierra floor pan that had been around for years. They were still rallying mk2 escorts when it was conceived.

I do like the look of the supra next week. If nothing else the cars they have picked are a step up for me.

Continuity seemed a bit off in places. Ant initially said the the oil leak was not from the crank seal, but from the sump "which is good", but later on was replacing a crank seal to fix "our original leak". Then they replaced the spoiler mount rubber, which they had not actually mentioned before.

I used to be a regular viewer, but kind of got bored with the same old same old. Just before I planned to get off to bed I caught an episode where they (Ed, apparently) bought a 1916 Cadillac and entered in into the Peking-Paris rally. Despite bedtime calling, I thought 'this might be good' and stayed glued to it...although in fairness despite the acted tension between the pair, there dod seem to be some real tension too. But then it just ended - a short announcement that they didn't get the car to the rally, and none of the 'old out yer 'and deal. Did they sell the car(s)? Did they make a 'profit' despite overlooking Ed's time for free? What a let-down. A bit of googling suggests this was Ed's last episode - in retrospect it doesn't surprise me given the programme - but they could at least have cobbled together a proper ending.

So then the next episode was one with Ant, who I'd never seen before so I thought I better give it a go. This was with the Escort Cosworth. It had an oil leak and so he drops the motor and takes off the sump. 'See, the gasket's gone' he says (or something similar) to explain the leak, and points out there's no gasket left. In fairness I've never seen a gasket that's just disappeared before - cracked, split. blown etc yet - but just gone? Then 5 minutes later when rebuilding it he explains the cossie has no gasket and just uses sealant to keep things solid for the 4wd system. Yea...but 5 minutes ago you said....

Went to bed at that point.

So, what did happen to the Cadillacs?

I think anstead came across well, his style was engaging and I didnt find him particularly patronising. I think the style and presentatation was slick, well filmed and it flowed better. Clearly though it was staged with the vendor and that lessens it all a little.

However, it is clearly now an american programme the only difference is that the presenters are british. The charm of WD was that it was quintisentially english in its approach and thats gone forver, which is a shame.

I saw the trailer for this. Don't know what to make of it. Again the early wd was good because the cars were what you know or lusted after as a kid. Plus the budgets are realistic. I am not sure about anyone else but I don't have a spare 30000 to invest in a car despite a 20000 return.

Maybe they should make the show more realistic by working on some ones drive with rain down there neck and a knackered set of halfords spanners. There would be a lot more cursing but it would make better TV.

Is it likely to be better or worse than Supercar Megabuild?

Probably would be quite similar.
I just mean that if people think the spoiler is bad on the cosworth then wait until the ghastly wraps appear.

The Escort was the worst of the lot. The spoiler didn't involve ruining the boot lid, and those wheels can be swapped back easily enough...the rest of the series is pretty good I thought.

yes

The only reason the the car came into existance is because Ford wanted their rallying to have the silhouette of an existing model. By the time the Escort Cosworth came into being the Mondeo had long since replaced the Sierra. The 4WD versions of the Escort and Sierra platforms weren't up to the job.

This series was released over in the US a few months ago. Doesn't get much better personally. They do a Celica Supra and a 3000Gt. Ant is good but he's presenting can be a little over kill. He seems to love every car and keeps hugging Mike.

I do like Ant but I think I prefer Edd. However, I feel it's time Mike was replaced as I find him becoming a Benny Hill like character. He looks a right sweaty mess in some of the episodes. Mike Brewer gets constant abuse on Twitter about Edd and his replacement. Some valid, some over kill. He gets deep in to arguments with twitter trolls, he needs to just ignore them as the more he replies the more these dudes go for him. Do feel sorry for him on that.

He just cant seem to shake the ` Edd leaving` situation. After 10 years you see them as a partnership, similar to Top Gear. So when Edd left over editing issues, you feel that Mike should of left too but he didn't. Like Top Gear both together would of been a more powerful position, so it doesn't appear very disloyal. Also, he seems to have turned on Edd a little, there are videos of him bad mouthing Edd, again after 10 years together seems a little out of order. I think he felt he could of been the next Richard Rawlings and he's now saying his WD show is better than The Grand Tour.

Wheeler Dealers used to be a watchable / un-missable TV programme, now it's watchable but I don't worry if I missed it.

I've seen those, and when you compare it to Edd's dignified coming to the defence of Mike following the death-threats and hate posts he was getting you can see who the better person is.

Mike has always come across as someone who is prepared to lie and bullst his way out of something - I guess that's the dodgy-used-car-salesman in him.

PS. I switched the Cosworth episode off 15 minutes in. Don't think I'll bother with the rest of them as the last of the Americanised ones with Edd were starting to grate on me and it seems to have got worse with this series.

Still got a few of the French ones still to watch though..... biggrin

I thought it was that Ford had to build so many to get fia accreditation, the car was designed purely to go rallying so it was designed and built to do that, not to look like a road car.

That designer only designed a few elements of the car, the show made it look like he'd designed it all.
