Better comparison would be the Ford Anglia or Austin/Morris 1100 or Triumph Herald.
We had a HA van on hire at work for a while until I blew the head gasket. Can't recall if this was a replacement for the Transit I tipped on it's side or the Transit replaced the Viva.....
Did they give you Granville's bike after all that? hehe

So much for the buyer saying it was a keeper..... (if the person on the show really was the buyer of course)
Just noticed it too! Your thoughts are exactly the same as mine! He was either a fake buyer, he didn't like it, or the car isn't as good as he thought it was! With all the BS in the advert, a fake buyer seems most likely!
£18000 !! They were horrible things new and they're still horrible things. I had one and couldn't get rid of it quickly enough
How much did it 'sell' for in the show?

It was dreadful when compared to the escort.
But that's not really a fair comparison, as the HA had already been replaced by the HB Viva 12 months before the Escort even came out!
That’s a fair comment. I forgot how old they actually were

Groundhog day again.
Drew wants to keep as much original paint as possible....and then cuts a great big hole in the roof for a webasto. It's widely accepted that aftermarket sunroofs hit the value of a classic car and here they are spending 2k on one.
They'd be better off welding the hole up

Do not understand Mr originality paying for a paint match to the original then agreeing to have it repainted using the modified paint rather than a standard Renault black to original spec.

So if the car is damaged in the future a paint code for the car will not match the modified paint used, where is the logic in that?

Car looked good in the end though, webasto roof was a good way to replace the leaking roof, I think webasto roofs were all the rage way back then.

Another dream final selling price?

I thought the car looked great. The sunroof was a decent solution to the monstrosity that was on it, though I would have preferred no sunroof at all.
Would be interesting to hear Mr Detailings professional view on the paint job.

Welding up the roof and repainting in original Renault black would have been far better ideas.

I thought it looked great but I would have liked the original head unit to have incorporated blue tooth with no outward modifications so you play stuff through your phone
. Who even has a cassette to play these days!

I might be wrong but did they say that they resprayed it with the modified paint, as that seems madness if they did.

Would have looked better without the webasto sunroof.

Another load of BS spoken, "There's not a patch of rust on it" shows a load of rust inside where the headlights go! And it hasn't been on the road for years, tyres were not flat, it started first time and the car had probably been left in the garage the month before they came along. And "it drives like a new car" they didn't do anything apart from get it resprayed and the roof put in, neither bits they did themselves.

I was not a fan of the roof, a solid metal roof would have been better. And who even knows what paint they used to respray it ?

I liked last weeks Land Rover though.

Thought the Renualt episode was really good, loved the period webasto, I enjoy this show more than most car shows on TV, the presenters work well together and I'm learning about much more than the usual bodywork and engine rebuilds.

Mr Original leaves off the air scoop on the bonnet and puts horrible plastic number plates on instead of using the perfectly fine original plates!
I really don't get them. It's those sort of details which are easy to spot and really make a difference to a car.

Caught up with this watching the repeat on this morning.

A mate from my motor club bought a R5 Gordini new, to replace his Mk.2 RS Mexico, so have fond memories of multiple trips in his met blue R5 Gordini in the early 80's, especially as he passed away earlier this year.

Which leads me onto the guy who fitted the Webasto sunroof, as there was a thread on them on PH at end of last year, and a guy posted that he was all booked for just before Christmas at the Trimming Centre for one to be fitted by this chap seen in the program, but he died suddenly, and the place closed down.

If this episode was filmed last summer, this might have been one of the last sunroofs he ever did frown

And yes, I would have replaced the roof panel instead, as I've had folding fabric roof in cars and hated them.
I'm also surprised that Mr.Orginal agreed to the Gordini graphics being replaced with a set of stickers rather than having the graphics guy make up a template for them to be painted on as per original......hardly original is?
Droopey is so full of BS.

Ended up a nice car though, even though I hate black cars.

I'd be surprised if the original graphics were painted on, I got the impression that was a bad attempt at replicating the stripes that almost certainly weren't available to buy back in the day

Agreed, surely it would have been decals from new, cannot see Renault painting them.

No, it was the original owner that had it fitted soon after they bought it, at about 4-5 months old.

They weren't mass produced on the line by Renault though, they were assembled at the separate small Alpine factory in Dieppe....so its possible given the 'by hand' nature of the builds they stuck a template on and sprayed them as indicated by the guy doing the graphics...?
