THat was ace, and could be directed to a load of posts in NPEhttps://twitter.com/TheOnion/status/10203443314990...
The Incredibles 2, because the alternative was singing. It's a decent sequel in the same vein as the first, a fairly thin and inconsequential plot with a lot of set pieces and some humour. The best bit from an adult point of view was the baddie's almost V-style broadcast monologue about the modern human condition, that actually got quite dark! But the rest is all kids stuff and fairly predictable kids stuff at that. 7/10

Kingsman: The Secret Service
It was on telly and I got drawn into watching it again, complete with adverts, despite having it on DVD.
The church scene never ceases to amaze, appal, and stun. In fact the whole film is rather brilliant. I must get round to watching the sequel - perhaps it will pop up on Amazon Prime soon.
Hot Shots: Part Deux
Again, it was on the telly and I ended up watching it despite having seen it many times. Always raises a smile.
One thing struck me though - the POTUS that Lloyd Bridges plays was an extreme parody at the time (and very funny) but what is scary is that he *is* Donald Trump.

Watched the first one again tonight as well probably go and see 2 next week. I'd forgotten just how good it is, and can't believe it's 14 years old. Mama Mia
The first one, not the second one. Since the g/f wanted to see the second one she told me I had to watch the first one so that we could go together.
It was absolutely awful. I had fairly low expectations, but still spent the first 1/3 of the film thinking it was probably the worst film I'd ever seen. Apart from the awful singing - even though I quite like Abba tracks - the "comedy" was slapstick, which I really cannot stand.
I genuinely do not understand how such a dreadful film was such a massive hit, even allowing for the fact that men and women generally often have different taste.
It did get slightly better about halfway through, but that simply means it's one of the worst films I've ever seen rather than the absolute worst.
Fortunately, my critique afterwards means that I'm not sure I'm invited to Mama Mia 2 now.

Watched them both at the cinema on release, and then watched them again on TV over the weekend...
The Darkest Hour
With the exception of the tube scene (which is a bit cringe-worthy), absolutely brilliant. Proper acting.
Thor Ragnarok
I've seen all the Marvel films, and this is one of the most entertaining. More humorous than some of the previous films, and all the better for it.

I remember being forced to watch The Polar Express one Christmas by my ex. They thought it would be a "good family thing" for us all to sit down together (me, them, and their son). I absolutely hated it, and endured it through gritted teeth, and then partway through my ex started goading me to say how great it was, just wouldn't stop, and in the end I absolutely exploded and went on a protracted rant about what a completely crap film it was, and wasn't it enough that I was watching the pile of ste without having to pretend I liked it as well.
Apparently I ruined Christmas.

Thor was really good. Korg is the show maker, very funny. The Darkest Hour

The Void - a Sheriff finds a man laying in the road and takes him to the local hospital, only to be besieged by a mysterious cult. Had a very 80's feel to it, especially John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness (very underrated) and was pretty decent, maintaining that constant feeling of dread.
