I actively avoid trailers now, where possible*, as they are usually chocked full of spoilers.

(* - obviously you can't avoid trailers in the cinema. But I don't go to the cinema that much)
We are lucky enough to have Dorking cinema a couple of miles away. We also are fortunate enough to be able to grab films during the afternoon when The cinema is practically empty. No munchers or interruptions, just film enjoyment. If it was a big multiplex I would rarely go.
Agree very much up with the trailers and spoilers

Just starting on TalkingPictures TV, "The Sound Barrier", an enjoyable 1952 aviation film by David Lean.

I have my timing down to a fine art now,
Arrive 25 mins after start time and you miss all the adverts and all but the last trailer, sitting through that 25 mins of crap is painful. Trailers use to be a good way to get a feel for a film, now they just have the biggest jokes and explosions and clips that spoil the ending

Lost in translation. A brilliantly passive movie.

Agree. It’s one of the very few films that properly captures the grim experience of international business travel IMHO. Most make it look cool and glam a la James Bond. Or maybe I’ve just been in the wrong jobs...
and also middle aged crisis........... IMHO......
I rewatched this on Friday night having not seen it since it came out when it left me a little cold. Made more sense as a 44yo vs 30yo and I enjoyed it a lot more.

Watched Locke again straight afterwards for the complete mid life crisis double bill. I really enjoy this film, but had forgotten it was Olivia Coleman on the other end of the phone. A good 7.5/10.

And Parasite is 10/10 all day long winktongue out

I like that 20 minutes, it helps get in the mood for the film and switch off the outside world before the film proper starts.

I heard you can find it online quite easily. Popcorntime for example.

I would not have a heart to called it "good", but 1917 has certainly left a deep impression on me.

And it was a screen unseen film at Odeon cinemas in December.

Finally watched Dunkirk last night on Netflix.

That is some movie, Nolan really knows how to put stuff together. Was a bit confused by the lack of a story/dialogue at the start but with a story like that, the music, the pacing, how it all comes together.

Excellent stuff.

Watched Hurricane on Netflix this afternoon. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Easy to watch, held my attention, amusing, tragic, based on fact.

True Romance

Can't recall if I've ever actually seen it before, but what a greta film! Proper 90's style, big cast, great soundtrack.
Watched Heathers earlier since it appeared on Amazon prime.

Christian Slater plays unhinged lunatics very well indeed.

Surprised to have found Leon on the menu on my flight back to the UK last night/this morning.

Not seen it for a while and it was great to catch up with Reno's trusting hitman, Oldman's psycho corrupt cop and Portman's world weary innocence once again.

Heathers is a cult classic.

1917.

Excellent. Not great but excellent.

Basically the chase from skyfall set in WWI

Enjoyed it, had some issues with it strange because of the attention to detail made no sense for silly little things. Laid it on a bit thick towards the end a few scenes felt forced hey other ww have scenes like this, wed better put one in..

Anyway minor criticisms aside very good and a little different take on it.

The Rhythm Section

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt7134096/

Despite being sufficiently vacuous to enjoy 1917 unencumbered by concerns over period detail this was a real struggle.

Dull from start progressing to boring, with even moments of action failing to raise any interest. If the power had gone off half way through and we had to leave the cinema I would have been just as happy as staying.

On the upside it seems a a quickish Parkrun time, being able to hit a bin lid with a bullet at 5 yards, and experience with minor scuffling is enough to take on a terrorist cell, so any consequences of stair domination or asking someone to get off the phone in a quiet carriage should all be well within our capabilities.

Justice League (Amazon Prime)

wow, almost a copy plot wise of Endgame - what am i saying almost, it was, although compressed into 1 movie and the Baddie was thinly fleshed out with no real feel to him at all.
Ben Affers as Batman was ok - i've liked his batman to be honest
Superman - i've liked Henrys superman and where it went with ZOD but after that , went downhill film/plot wise
Wonder Woman - jeez i feel the worst of the bunch, her cufflinks and lasso rope seem totally outdated now
Aquaman - why was he even there again?
Flash guy was comic relief and was ok - lets face it a Spiderman in this movie
Droid man seemed an afterthought

CGI seemed really poor too - spent it all on supermans moustache removal i think....

Mr Right

An enjoyable lighthearted film. Sam Rockwell plays a hitman who decides that people who employ him are bad and in turn should be eliminated!
He meets up with Martha played by Anna Kendrick who is a nutter in her own right.

Much mayhem ensues! Well worth watching, a little midweek gem.

7.7 hits/10 bad guys

Edited to add that it is free on Netflix.
