Yum Elizabeth Olsen and 45-70 action. What’s not to like.
What a fantastic film that was!

Wild Rose

Another drama with a musical interest.

Jessie Buckley gives a fantastic performance, what a voice!

Excellent.

Its not completely unrealistic though. Spitfires were excellent at gliding. In fact one pilot glided from Dunkirk to Kent during the evacuation. Obviously that was from a higher starting point, but the plane in the movie starting out at say two thousand feet could probably glide for 4-5 miles fairly easily.
Good to know, although shooting down a Stuka whilst gliding was quite a feat
13:1 glide ratio a pretty amazing figure - so could do the 21 miles across the channel gliding from 8.5k ft high

(21miles = 110880ft)
(110880/13 = 8529ft height)

Pretty diverse viewing now , The Two Popes

Brilliantly acted by Anthony Hopkins as the Austrian Pope Benedict XVI and Jonathan Pryce as the future Pope Francis.

I am not usually keen on dramas but this was excellent and gave me a chance to have a good rib at my catholic raised wife!

8.0 funny white hats/10 over large crucifixes
For a devout atheist I found it compelling , the acting was very good , almost as if it was unscripted. Of course it can only be based on the supposed conversations between the two , but nevertheless conveyed the story of the Pope resigning
Each was playing himself , but the same time making the character believable .
And I must say a couple of times my chin wobbled .

never seen it before (I think), one of those 70's paranormal films. Kirk DOuglas too, who in his 60s was jumping around like Tarzan.
pretty brutal, in the same vein as Scanners.

talk about Shakespearean.

Just finished watching this based on these 2 reviews, a very good film - great dialogues and acting. I'm not at all religious but really enjoyed the conversations they had.

8.5 / 10

Awesome movie

There are some fantastic scenes in it. Brian DePalma knows how to play with cameras

yeah, I can't believe how good it was, I think it may have been Firestarter I have memories of because I genuinely didn't recall any of the Fury. It was on film4 a while back and I decided last night was a good enough night to watch. I like how it didn't spell things out for you. Might be good for a modern retelling. Also pretty mental to see (not looked it up yet but must be 60 odd) Kirk jump down onto a rail and swing like a chimp. Made me red up on it, I actually see it predates Scanners. I wonder if De Palma was influenced by the X-Men.

Missed it when it first came out but caught it last night - Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool

Thought it was beautifully done and had excellent performances from Jamie Bell and Annette Bening.

Watching "It's a Wonderful Life" in later years must have been pretty poignant for the real characters.

Maybe I need to see it again. I remember watching it and thinking one scene was awesome.

I think it’s in the street we’re Kirk sees his son and he’s planning to snatch him and it all goes tits up.
Also remember the characters being interesting, I’ll try and watch this weekend

There is an excellent Arrow Video Blu Ray release of this (The Fury) , which I bought a few years ago. It is well worth hunting down for both picture and sound quality and the extras.

Underwater. Another version of Alien that isn't as good as Alien. Not terrible though. 6 soggy Kristen Stewarts / 10.

Huge fan of The Shining, I finally got round to watching Doctor Sleep.

Excellent. I got really immersed in it.
Only slight criticism from me is the final act seemed out of synch with the rest of the movie.

The final act was also the part they changed the most from the book as they had to tie in more with the film version of The Shining than the book version. I thought they did a very good job with Doctor Sleep and I'm looking forward to seeing it again.

Birds of Prey

Off shoot of Suicide Squad focussing on Harly Quinn. An all female cast (bar McGregor as villian) and actually pretty entertaining, and not the horrendous mess of the Ghostbusters-type movie (as in shove it in your face look at this all female cast). I guess that comes from having a female director for the film.

Anyway quite a few laughs, but there's some really dark torture scenes that surprised made the cut.

7.5/10

I watched it because of the reviews on here.

Cheese-tastic!
I mean can you imagine Sheldon agreeing to play any character who is permanently a meanie!?
