Nice to see a "normal" police officer investigating the crime. They are usually alcoholics, hate women and stroppy with all their colleagues.
Still, time yet for some imperfections....
Well, they've already set the scene for a disagreement between her and her sidekick about the situation of the immigrants living in the garage.Still, time yet for some imperfections....
Well that went downhill rapidly!
So many cliches compared to the opener - the cringeworthy scenes with the MI5 bloke; the sex-pest army superior who was absolutely hamming it up; the social-political themes shoe-horned in e.g. council underfunding, Iraq, sexism in the army.
And the back and forth between Mulligan and her partner was incredibly unnatural and scripted.
It was like a completely different program!

My thoughts exactly, I was looking forward to a decent drama but I don't think I'll be watching the final two episodes. Just watched the first 2 episodes. Good drama and base plot but the police investigation is very half arsed and seems like they make it up as they go along. This is pretty frustrating but I will still watch the last 2 episodes for the sake of finishing it off. Good storyline that has developed in episode 2.
The story is good, i'm hooked so I find out the motive and reason for the killing and what the person from the burner phone has to do with it, but other than that, it's a bit meh.
I've only ever seen Carey Mulligan in Drive, where she plays a very placid, timid girl so I was intrigued at how she'd play a lead role. She brilliant and plays her character very well.
Not sure whether we are posting spoilers or not, so i've tagged them (they're not major) upto episode 2.
Major annoyance is Linh (the Asian girl who was high and witnessed the shooting) was found at the scene with drugs on her but they let her go and was told to report to the station to give a statement. Err, what? Let the only eye witness fk off and hope she returns. It is said that they did this as she couldn't give a reliable account while high, but then arrest her for possession of the drugs and she can recover overnight in a cell. By letting her go there was no intention to prosecute for the drugs, if arrested and questioned the next day, if needed they could offer immunity and a bit of pressure to provide an accurate account even if there no intention to prosecute anyway, she doesn't know that.
I can see why they did it, as it develops the story with the Reverend and David Mars but it's already tarnished by the above flaw in episode 1. This storyline could easily be still made if she's at the station.
Interviewing the two Syrian ladies in the back of a car. Are the police that budgets that low that they can't take them to a station and have it recorded for future reference?
In the 2nd episode, Kip's partner goes to the pizza place and asks for the credit card receipts, he's handed a big pile but can't find Billie Piper's receipt so then just shoves them all in his pocket and leaves. Surely as soon as the shooting happened the pizza place would be torn to pieces and these would be taken as evidence a little more...officially.

I meant pleasant, the very start (.) (.)
I did wink. Watching the first episode I shouted at my lads for turning it over... only to realise John Simm was appearing in Trauma on ITV at the same time.
Sunday night Robert Portal, playing the Major in Collateral, was also playing a Major in Endeavour.
I can’t keep up!

I'm enjoying it...
