Well done BBC. One of the best shows on radio is now resigned to the history books.

Got to agree, it's awful if it carries on like this I'll have to put Heart FM on.

Is it all because of that pay disparity thing? What a load of nonsense. I liked his show, has Matt gone as well? I also now miss confessions as I’m home at six. Harrumph.

It didn’t gel with me. JW seems too keen to impress.
Simon is a great interviewer of guests and having to share will not add anything but subtract everything.

Agree with the comments. I’ll still listen but it’s such a shame. SM tweeted that the last few weeks were difficult and upsetting. Kind of feel the same.

Just been listening as I cooked my grub, and it was dire. JW is a single presenter and poor Simon Mayo didn't get a look in. They are both excellent radio presenters, but in their own way. Paired together it was shocking.

I did laugh when Mayo acknowledged all the texts and said 'we do like to see all your texts, especially the positive ones'. Coupled with the uneasy way the show progressed - it got worse - the switchboard probably lit up like a christmas tree with unflattering comments.

All the usual 7pm shows have been moved, too. I love to listen to the folk show on a wednesday at 7pm. That's gone, and I don't do iplayer, there's no way anyone can listen again to all the shows they want. I'm happy to miss a show, if that's how the cookie crumbles - but moving the folk show is going to make me unhappy.

Just checking the evening schedules, and they've all moved. Or gone. The only weekday regulars are Blackburn on friday at 7 (hate his style) and friday night is music night.

Wish they'd simply put repeats of Desmond Carrington on. Wonderfully syrupy, soporific show.

It was very strained and as said JW trying too hard. Have they done away with Dr Mosh?

My email to the show:

I have never found the need to do a Victor Meldrew and complain to the BBC... but..
This new show...It’s rubbish.

Iffy music.
Not interested in advertorials from ‘celebrities’
Where’s the funny sports guy.
Jo Whiley isn’t very good and has an annoying rising inflection to her voice.
It’s like the One Show on radio, very poor.

And don’t give me all that nonsense about new shows bedding in, it’s patently nonsense.

Sorry, massive fail.

You would have been better sorting Steve Wright out, decades past his sell by date.

Cheers,

Andy Gough.

Ps feel free to contact me if you want any further advice. Probably best time to get hold of me is while the show is on - I’ll be free because I won’t be listening.😂

Wherever you look (Twitter, Facebook, Forums etc) you have to look very very hard to find a positive comment. Utterly bewildering decision by the BBC. Can’t see him sticking around long, he’s worth far more than this.

Not sure how much more he’s worth to be fair, he’s on £350k per year apparently.

But I agree, lots of years on mega bucks, he can probably reinvent himself without too much harm to his earnings.

Very odd, the BBC.

Could have been worse, could have got Vanessa Feltz.

Could have been better, Sara Cox who at least has a sense of humour.

Could have been better still, left alone.

It could have been far worse. Fearne Cotton has started to get more airtime if she gets a regular show that's me done with them.

Wasn’t thinking about material worth. Agree about Sara Cox. She’s not to everybody’s taste but she’s very sharp and quite amusing. A pleasant surprise when she stands in for Evans. A much better fit, if a fit needed to be made.

They are fking things up all over the place, keeping Chris Evans at breakfast host for one, on radio 1 they’ve done all this no normal presenters on a Friday, now it’s all a guy and a girl they’ve roped in to take over the shows, and it’s all the people that are just awful, dev with the fat voice. Matt edminsion and some annoying woman from the Saturdays, and then they’ve moved the chart ( which was a great Sunday listen) to a Friday, and made it 20 songs long?

Didn't hear the show last week as I was off work but the previous week with no hint of this new Jo and Simon show there were comments about Matt leaving and on the Thursday we said goodbye to the Food guy, (sorry should know his name but I'm terrible at names)

Wasn't too impressed with tonight's show, far too much JW and not enough SM.

Only positive is moving confessions to 6.15 (sorry chaps) as that means I will hear it every week regardless of me finishing work at 5 or 6.

Being an older git I'm happy to listen to Blackburn on Fridays, the rest of the week after the news at 7 it was off to 5 live for the last 20 minutes of my journey.

Shame - he made the confessions very funny, especially when he wen't into uncontrollable fits of laughter.

Caught some of tonight's show and I didn't think it gelled at all.

Is this some sort of SJW/equality move. Can't have the prime time radio show headed by just a bloke.........

I thought Matt was crap and didn’t much like the food guy but Jo Whiley is diabolical. I think she thinks she’s a lot cooler and more likeable than the reality. Plus she has no sense of humour and is basically completely boring. They need to fire her, fearne cotton and Steve Wright plus his unfunny wk hangers on.

I never thought much of Matt either.

I think making the slot longer makes sense too. I always found it jarring the shift in tone of the station at 7. I imagine the listener numbers reflected this.

That being said SM had by far the best show on R2 and it is tragedy that when so much change could be made (for me any other day time show) that his is the show they have messed with.

On the basis of last night, I'm with the naysayers on this one, but I'll give it a while to see if it beds in.

Not generally an R2 listener: it's 6Music for me all day, but the Mayo slot was a tropical island amongst the floating plastic waste of Evans, Wriht (no g) Feltz, Tarbuck etc. Overall I'm a big fan of JW (because I think she's more of a 6M type), but have always tended to turn the radio off after drivetime & head off to dinner & telly, so missed most of her shows. (6M had already given me my fill of new music by that point in the day, so I never felt I was missing out)

Couple of things stood out for me last night. There was a Super Furry Animals track in there somewhere. Excellent, I thought! Something non-mainstream, but it just died on it;s ar*e. It felt like Acacia avenues up & down the country were silently raging the BBC going to the dogs & JW despairing that this was as "edgy" as it was ever going to get in that slot.

Second - The "best track ever" slot, or whatever it was called. Best Duet, I think it was. I was waiting for Matt to start ranting about how the hell 4x Take That & 1 x Lulu was a DUET!! Even SM would've said something in the past, but it felt like he'd already given up & was wondering what the hell was the point. First outing & that feature completely fell apart.

No idea why Matt & Nigel (chef) had to go. There's a point where the "posse" type show gets (W)right on my nerves, but the old team with Matt, never seemed to cross that line - yes, his job was to be the shouty one, but he & Mayo could always take the mickey out of each other before it got too annoying.

SM & JW are excellent presenters in their own right, but it felt totally flat, laboured, awkward & a real struggle for everyone involved.

I'll give it a couple of weeks though - it couldn't be worse...could it?

I don't generally listen to the drivetime show as usually I'm home by the time it starts. But, I do enjoy Simon Mayo as a broadcaster and the drivetime show was good when I caught it. Jo Wiley is profoundly irritating. Assuming they decided to add a female presenter why Wiley? Does she have photographs of the DG with his knob out? I'd have gone with Lisa Tarbuck.
