Ummm, the bod taking over from Chris Evans is neither a chap, nor did they start on X Factor.
Wasn't clear, I was talking about the news regarding Rylan.

Johnnie Walker is the best dj on Radio 2, in fact he must be up with one of the best dj's ever.
For some reason the BBC about 25 years ago decided they must employ people with broad regional accents at the detriment of quality.
Johnnie Walker is genuinely interested in the music he plays, and always has been. It's no coincidence that, of the current, and past, presenters on R2, the vast majority of the ones who have got positive comments on this thread are also passionate about music they play. Think Paul Jones, Bob Harris, Huey Morgan, Craig Charles, Mark Radcliffe etc etc.

Contrast them with the ones who have been derided on here, who are all more interested in the sound of their own voice, and the mistaken assumption that we've got the slightest interest in what amusing things their children have said, what they're having for dinner or a vacuous phone-in telling them how fking wonderful they are.

DJ's should be made to sit an exam on the history of modern music, in a variety of styles; fail, and they can fk off in place of someone who knows their stuff.
Totally agree, another dj I thought was excellent was Mike Read.

Unlucky enough to hear a bit of Steve Wright's show this afternoon driving home.

After about 10 "No g's" and 5 what's the point, no-one knows, I had to put my iPod on. Surely as it's his segment, he should know what the point of no g's is? I sure as st have no idea tho

I’m going to sound like a tt but who was that bbc dj / host that died unusually young / unexpectedly and was really good. He played alternative music from new bands and so on, and it was really sad when he died. Evening show. Can’t remember his name.

Edit now I typed all that - John peel.

He was ok with his music in his younger days but the last 25 years of his life he seemed to cater for spotty students in bedsits, he's a cult hero for the BBC and dare say it's where some of their ideas come from regarding the obscure stuff they play on BBC 6 music.
Around 1990 the BBC lost a great dj by the name of Roger Scott, he was only in his 40s when he passed away and hardly gets a mention on the BBC now.
Also regarding the drivetime show a mention must go out to the late great John Dunn who ran the show impeccably for many years.

Perhaps he's referring to the vicar?

I think the Vine haters don't realise a lot of what he says is very much tongue in cheek, you've only got to watch his brother in action to see where he gets his humour from.

Vine is a , and clearly a thick one too. If he wants to be sanctimonious about the word 'Drivetime' does he not realise public transport is driven too?

Vine doesn’t display any ability for humour. And I don’t think much of what he says is tongue in cheek. He just loves the sound of his own voice.
