I’m going to sound like a tt but who was that bbc dj / host that died unusually young / unexpectedly and was really good. He played alternative music from new bands and so on, and it was really sad when he died. Evening show. Can’t remember his name.

Edit now I typed all that - John peel.
My Father in Law married him.
Who John Peel? He wasn't gay
Perhaps he's referring to the vicar?
yes serious vicarin (no g)
Don't be bringing Tim Westwood into it now...

It's because we don't know any better.
I can’t help wondering if it’s a deliberately ploy by the BBC to ruin their main FM station so they can dredge up the FM switch off idiocy again?

I think the Vine haters don't realise a lot of what he says is very much tongue in cheek, you've only got to watch his brother in action to see where he gets his humour from.
Vine doesn’t display any ability for humour. And I don’t think much of what he says is tongue in cheek. He just loves the sound of his own voice.
We listen to Ken Bruce in the morning, but as soon as Vine comes on we change to Smooth - mainly for a bit of background noise rather than serious listening. It's not just what Vine says that annoys me, it's his stupid nasal sounding voice. That, and the fact he's such a means he's a no from me.

I know the idea behind "talk show" presenters is to get people animated but he just doesn't get how to do it. The late Mike Dickin (Talk Radio / Talksport) was excellent at this. I could (and often did) listen to him host a show about anything - from art to politics - and make it interesting. A couple of weeks ago, Vine was banging on about people should use bikes to get to work as it's what he does. A plasterer phoned up & asked him how would that work as he had a van. Vine said he knew of a builder that only did local jobs & had a bike with a trailer. What a .

I like the Jeremy Vine show, it's usually complete rubbish, of course, but...

Everyone on PH does but nobody admits to it.

Ha! No!

I think the biggest draw for me, is the bigots/stupid people that phone in.

I see Chris Evans is taking all his team to Virgin. I can only assume the Leadership at Radio 2 is doing a great job.

Slight shame as I quite enjoy listening to Vassos, even if him and Chris are a little too matey sometimes. I don't know who any of the others are, however ever time I hear CE referring to 'The Frothy Coffee Man' and 'Golden Graham' it makes my teeth itch.

Sam & Amy were excellent when presenting the breakfast show on GEM 106, certainly far better than Chris Evans ever has been on Radio 2. I can't receive Virgin so don't know how they went down on there but I wonder how they feel about being split up and one now doing the early graveyard shift and the other the late graveyard shift. I suspect that they will both be leaving Virgin very quickly now after having their broadcasting careers killed by the station. I doubt that they will have much love for Evans and his crew.

I'm not racist but I was rather hoping Rachel the Norn Irish travel lass wouldn't be going (I'm planning to give Virgin a go) - my teeth itch every time she says "roundabout", "breakdown" or "M8".

She does a weekly podcast with Geoff Lloyd. Up to episode 63 at present. No idea if she's broadcasting. I'd never heard her/of her until the podcast.

So you are racist.

That's pretty bloody cute commenting on our accent when you are from Aberdeen!

How IS the DORIC?

Bloody Hypocrite!

hehe

You might have taken my post a bit too seriously. Pretty sure I'm the same race as Rachel.

Also - for the record, I do not have an Aberdeen accent and, more importantly, am not a broadcasting professional.

Oh god, now I'm going to hear your posts in an angry female Ian Paisley accent every time I read them biggrin

Tuned in tonight at 5.45 and Simon is taking a bow by presenting the show on his own. Was this planned, did Whiley have the grace to give him his curtain call or has she disappeared in a huff?
Anyway, enjoying tonight’s tunes and deserved compliments from the callers for Simon.

Jo Whiney fked off yesterday, I listened to it and even at the very end there was zero chemistry between the two. Farewell Simon.

Yep, I've just finished listening to Simon's final Drivetime broadcast....it's sad he's decided to leave the show & it'll be interesting to see how the figures compare with his replacement. I think Jo probably had the good grace to let him present his last show on his own which you can't criticise her for IMO. 2019 has a lot of big challenges for Radio 2 I think (it was good to hear Criag Charles standing in for Steve Wright btw wink )
